Champion Trace is a really nice Arthur Hills design just outside of Lexington, Ky. At just over 7,100 yrds from the championship tees, it isn't the longest course in the world, but most of the challenge is around the greens anyway. All the par 5's are reachable for longer hitters with a good tee shot and each provides some nice risk/reward for doing so.

It has bent grass fairways and greens with bluegrass rough. The rough can be terribly difficult to play out of when its long. However, the members tend to keep it cut down so it's not much of a factor on a day to day basis. As a result it's a very driver friendly course that allows one to spray the ball a bit off the tee.

The opening nine is definitely the easiest of the two with strong finishing holes on the par 5 8th with water along the entire left side of the hole and the 200 yrd par 3 9th over water into the prevailing wind.

The back 9 is a bit tougher with many good scores ruined on the closing 3 holes. It's easy to make a big number on 16, 17 or 18.

The course is consistently ranked as one of the top ones in the state. If you get the opportunity to play it, you should as you are likely to have a very enjoyable round.
