Well the previous reviews are quite harsh. I will try to do a better job since its been awhile on a review. The course isn't a premier track. The tee boxes are a little small and bumpy compared to nicer courses. The fairways DO have grass and yes the green are slow. That would be so they dont have to worry about them getting burnt up in the summer hot weather. The layout is actually nice now. They did make changes since years past. They are letting the bunkers grow in with grass which isn't a bad thing. I hate going to courses with horrible bunkers. If you have them, take care of them. If you can't afford to maintain, grow them up. The carts are horrible, not new either. The course plays very short. You can drive multiple holes with the proper shot. Par 5's are easily reachable in two. It's a good course to build confidence and grow your game. It isn't the nicest course but, I enjoy playing it at least once a year. This is the first course I started playing at too. Kinda sentimental. A good place to pass time.

Customer Service

This is where they lack. The young lady is there on minimum wage (so I would guess) and dont have a PGA Pro. They dont seem to care if you play or not. The clubhouse is going down hill and so is the driving range. I wish someone would buy this course, invest some money into it. If that was the case, this could become a top 3 in the area.

What makes Slate Branch golf course unique is that it's located in the beautiful Lake Cumberland area. This golf course was created on the owner's family farm so it is rich in history as well (and anyone there would be glad to share the stories with you if you ask). You will NOT get better treatment, more respect or more friendly people at any other golf course in the region! This golf course was created out of a love for the great outdoors and a wonderful sport - does that make it "redneck"? It was created "for the people, by the people" so that everyone who enjoyed golf would be able to without having to pay outrageous membership fees or rub elbows with people who think they are better than everyone else. Don't take life too seriously - enjoy the views, laugh with the people and have fun! They don't claim to be "the best" and I would avoid places that do. God Bless!!

I am a member at Slate Branch and its true its a redneck golf course but the people are the best you will find. The course is looking a little better this year other than the danger, bad fairways, and slow greens its perfect. Cheap rates and good people what more do you need

It's sad to say, but the other reviews are so true. But, as of 10/26/2002, this course has some new"er" golf carts, the greens were really not too bad(need to be shorter and faster). Yeah, it's a rednecks course, but it's a refreshing change from stuck-up buttholes at some places I've been. You know you'll at least be treated respectfully here. If you shoot really good here, you must play sucky courses a lot because you've mastered the mud tee shot, mud approach, and mud chip shot. Do yourself a favor and drive to the green on the short par 4's so you can go straight to the putter. If the course had more playable grass, it's ratings would increase dramatically.

Quaint Course. It''s not championship quality but neither are the greens fees. It''s a neat course. Check it out if you''re in the area.

Okay, played it again today. I'm a glutton for punishment. The greens have improved quite a bit this year.Fairways are still non-existant and make 2nd shot difficult and hard to score. Rednecks continue to rove freely. We were even greeted by a rooster at the front door! Feel free to wear your old, stained, cut off t-shirts, you won't be out of place. Oh and make sure you ask for the most wrecked graffiti covered cart you can get. It'll help you pass the time. Oh and by all means feel free to have go cart demolition derby, it looks like everyone else has.

Customer Service

Great rooster to greet you at the door.

I have changed my name to protect the inocent here as this is the worst course I have played in my life. Not only is it an old hayfield mowed down a little, but it is dangerous as fairways cross each other and run too close together, I've been alomost hit numberous times. They have also raised their rates this year to $30 with cart for what I don't know. The carts are used ones with graffiti on the roofs. The greens don't hold a bit. There is one good hole on the course a 200 yard par 3. Other than that I don't know what the ownership was thinking on this one, and I know them. This isn't just spam now either this is real, go somewhere else. This course is for rednecks. I hope the ownership reads this and puts some money into the course so at least you wouldn't feel gyped by playing it. Unfortunately it is close and many of my higher handicap friends won't drive for better golf.
