I play this course 2 times a week becouse its so close to where I live and easy to walk.love the layout but its too bad its on protected land so they cant do anything to up grade it.becouse it could be a diamond in the rough.too bad (donald ross)hate to see such a good design go to waste....

Nice layouts. Lots of space between holes. Very good price.

Course maintenance is right out of the 1950's. I vehemently dislike first come first served, since I do not know how long I am going to wait before I tee off until I get there. I strongly prefer calling for a tee time in advance - even on the weekdays. The condition of the putting greens is quite variable.

Private country clubs would crave over this natural landscape with its beautiful vista of Blue Hills and intriguing Donald Ross layouts. Unfortunately, the MDC runs and maintains this course. It is incredible that the MDC, which receives public funds and charges to play, cries poverty as to their reason the grass is typically burnt out all summer and that the fairways resemble trimmed natural meadows. I dreem of what this course would look like if it was run privately. The MDC should license the operations to a company that can operate it, and just sit back and take a percentage of the profits.

tee boxes and fairways in poor condition at best. greens show abuse from inexperienced players slamming their clubs into them.

Play is extremely slow, too many hacks. At least there is a refreshment cart on this course filled with beer so when your waiting 15 minutes between holes to tee off you have something to do.

Nice layout. When the fairways and rough are cut right, it is a pretty course. Having 26 holes, each 18 holes have a slightly different character. (and a varied amount of woods and water)

Variation in conditions depending on weather, and rainfall. Also with regard to grass height since it will sometimes keep the grass from being cut on greens, making them bushy at times. (also, sometimes the traps are not in the best shape...so even though they might be well placed, they are sometimes a non-factor if this happens)

I grew up on this course, and worked there for years, so I used to know it like the back of my hand. Because he course if run by the MDC, the condition changes from year to year. The greenskeepers I knew loved the course enough, they just had limitted budgets and manpower to do the job. As a result, when the year is HOT and DRY, the course is HARD and burnt brown! This year (2002), it looks to be in good shape, with no sign of brown. (that I could see..but this is a very wet summer....my grass at home can attest to that!)

Course number 1 needs a lot of work, but course number 2 is a pretty good course, it is a great place if you just wanna go out with your friends.

Bring a helmet as balls fly all over this course.
Plan on 6+ hours on the weekends.

I only played here once and will never return. The fairways were littered with potholes, rocks and other debris. There was no grass to be found anywhere on the tees and it took a jackhammer to get a tee into the ground.
