Shoots in the 90s

Yet another over-priced, over-crowded course. Why? Because there's nowhere else on the eastside to play! This a very short course and it still takes 4.5 to 5 hours to play. HOWEVER, it is very close to home and many improvements have been made to this old course over the last few years due to a new management company and a not so forgiving tornado. Most holes can be played from adjacent fairways and the course is very flat without a lot of ball losing hazards as the course slope and rating indicate. The course is in very good shape though considering the number of golfers it hosts everyday.

Shoots in the 100s

Chandler Park is a great beginner''s course. It''s also a very convenient course for Eastsiders (unless you have the jack to belong to the C.C. of Detroit or Lochmoor). Saturdays are crazy, but you can usually walk on or get just about any tee time you want for a weekday (before 10 a.m. is best). The course is on the short side (5,406 from the back, 4,949 from the middle tees). The rating and slope are 67.3/109 (back) and 64.8/105 (middle). There isn''t a whole lot of trouble to get into other than the occasional sand or water hazard. But you don''t have to worry about elevated tees or greens and you never have to carry water or a waste area. As the slope indicates, it''s very flat and you can see every green from the tee box, except on on the par-five Nos. 11 and 15. My three main complaint about Chandler is that there is no driving range, no public phone and the inconsistency of the par-three yardage. They move the tee boxes so often on the par threes that what they really need to do is put down 100-yard and 150-yard markers. This is definitely a city course and you can hear street or freeway traffic on just about every hole. But then again, there''s something refreshing about playing golf among the elements of the inner city.

Putting green is fair. Chipping green is just an area of grass with a couple of flags in the ground.
