Not a better deal out there for this quality of golf!! The three courses are all uniquely different but Blackshire and Gailes have most "character" and you can get great variety if you like. Gailes is personal favorite but it's a links course with rolling fairways, pot bunkers, heather lined "golfball eaters" and massive greens (two are "double greens"). Blackshire if more of a traditional northern Michigan course and Serradela is the most "benign" of the courses.

Customer Service

I've been coming here for years, everyone has always treated me/us very well, once it's warm outside they get a huge grill going for fresh/hot BBQ, food/drinks reasonably priced

We played all 3 courses at Lakewood Shores on a stay and play package. Great value at $150 for 2 nights and 3 rounds. The weather was tough, cold, rainy, and windy. The courses on the other hand were great. Serradella was nothing special, like a lot of other courses in the state. The Gailes on the other hand was really great. Links style, straight outta Scotland. The only complaint anyone in our group had were the tees. There were 4 tees, but the back 2 were basically the same. We ended up playing the blue, second from back, and it played almost exactly like the tips. Very challenging course with some very memorable holes. Blackshire was a also a very unique course. Also played very long and the greens were a challenge. I don't understand the complaints however. These courses are supposed to be challenging. At the same time, they reward good shot making. I highly recommend Lakewood Shores.

Customer Service

Customer service was pretty good. Nothing special for us, but we didn't require much service either.

This place was great, especially for the price. 4 of us came from Ontario, paid less than three hundred dollars. We stayed for three nights and each played 8 rounds of golf with the cart included. Now tell me how and where you can beat those prices. We are going back for a second year in a row. Sure the food might not of been the greatest but there are some decent restaurants off the grounds not too far away.

Customer Service

Service was great. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival. Booking was so easy as Scott was very accomidating. Pro shop and drop area could use a little more friendliness and organization.

The Gailes is very interesting to say the least. Once you get past holes 3 and 4 it turns into a decent course. I have played many other links courses that were conditioned much better. I actually enjoyed Blackshire quite a bit more even though it was 44 degrees and the wind was blowing at 25 mph.

Customer Service

Lakewood Shores isn't much of a resort however. Breakfast buffet didn't have one healthy item on it and the clubhouse needs serious renovations. I have played Boyne and Crystal Mountain and those actually deserve the resort status. Rooms at Lakewood were new but sparsely equipped.

I went and played and probably will never return again especially when I can find stay and play deals that are at least $50 cheaper per day and lots more amenities.

Most of my rounds the last few years have been in West Michigan where there are fantastic golf courses, but after playing the Gailes a few years ago, it now personofies links golf in my mind. The three or four foot high sod bunkers and pot hole bunkers play right out of the British Open. The wind off the Lake makes for a challeging round. The course is beautifully maintained and worth the trip to the Sunrise side of the state! For the price, surely top five our Wolverine state. The only thing it lacks are views of Lake Huron from the course, but then again, not a deal breaker

Customer Service

Great customer service, saw them at the West Michigan golf show. Very acceptable to group outings at reduced rates and have great two for ones available. Very nice and helpfull staff in the expansive club house area.

Gailes is a great course. Was my favorite. Now they're turning it into a subdivision. Another one bites the dust.

Good.

I have played the Gailes twice and absolutely loved it both times. I am a fan of old school golf. I was having a career round until the shortest par four on the course inflated my score card into the low 90's.

Customer Service

Great customer service. Very helpful.

I am 44 years old and have been playing the game on and off since age 9. Simply put, the Gailes is my favorite course in the entire world. (I haven't played St. Andrews, Augusta, or Pebble Beach....yet.) If you're driving up from downstate Michigan it'll take you a few hours to get here, but it's absolutely well worth it AND the pricey green fee (well over $50). The course is a spectacular layout of traditional, classical golf style, in the Scottish sense, with sod-faced fairway pot bunkers and large, fairly flat greens. Lots of bump-and-run opportunities, and the most unforgiving rough imaginable. A huge challenge, and I shot a horrible score here, but dream of returning, even if I score badly again. It doesn't matter. This is golf the way it was invented to be played. Fairways and greens, ladies and gentlemen, fairways and greens.

Customer Service

Resort course style, very classy.

Shoot in the 80s

Played their brand new Blackshire course which opened June 1, 2001. This is a total disappointment for me. This is a perfectly good track in a beautiful setting that is basically well designed (with the exception of a totally tricked up par 4 that forces a huge hook off the tee) that is set up to accomodate walking, but was completely ruined with the greens. They are an absolute joke!!! He barried 5 or 6 dead elephants under each green that make them completely Mickey Mouse. This is putt putt golf at its finest. They are so over-undelated that they can't even mow them without damaging them (which they have!!!) An absolute embarrassment for the designer. Stay away from Blackshire and go across the street to the beautiful Gailes course.

Customer Service

Personnel were very friendly and kind

Everythings in great condition here. The Gailes Course is a Scottish links golf course that looks unlike any course I've ever played. Deep heather roughs, large and small pot bunkers, rolling fairways, monster greens. This course is truly a treat. I hope it remains managed by the same people and that this course doesn't change too much over time.
