An average layout. The greens were not great the day I played. I some of the holes to be interesting. A lot of them seemed to be layed out fairly simply and contrived. What is with cutting a narrow (one foot wide) ditch across the fairways and listing them as water hazards? A couple interesting par 3's. All in all not that great.

Having grown up in Billings, just 60 miles from Red Lodge, and spending lots of time in Red Lodge, it's difficult to say this but - THIS COURSE SUCKS.

Why? Well, first off, the course is absolutely in dreadful condition. As a general rule, you shouldn't ever have to play from a crappy lie after making a good shot. But I did on quite a few occasions.

Second, the distances listed on the cards to the ditches running through the course are WRONG!! This cost me at least 2 golf balls.

The biggest complaint? The greens! The greens are horrendous! The grass is so soft and long, yet the ground is hard that it was almost impossible to stop the ball on the green, even with a high wedge. Everything "skidded" accross. No ball, no matter how much spin would grab the grass and hold. The only way to stay on was to purposefully play a club or two short and let it bump and run.

The sand sucks too. Thick, almost cement like.

Red Lodge Mountain Resort has been going through tough times, because of bad management, but they are obviously taking the view that golf is less important than skiing.

Save your money until they get their SH*T together!

Customer Service

Great people, too bad the course is being neglected!
