Shoots in the 80s

Played this past weekend.

Pros:
It's a beautiful course with outstanding views.
Challenging layout that could have been fun to play.
Pace of play was great. Could have finished in 3 1/2 hours if we didn't have to walk up hill the last 2 holes.
Very firm greens that roll true once you adjust to their speed.

Cons:

Management staff or lack thereof. Definitely does not seem to be run by people who know golf.
No GPS! Your scorecard only shows the layout of the green which you already have on a card in the cart. If you haven't played here before, you'll have no idea how some of the holes are laid out.
Fairways have too much roll. Drove the ball down the center of the fairway on one par 5--couldn't find it because it continued rolling all the way through the fairway into a ravine that you can't see from the tee. Watched the wife hit a ball that went 20 yards in the air and another 170 yards on the ground.
Poorly marked cart paths. My group and the group in front of us never could find our tee box on one hole so we had to play from the tips.

2 of 5 stars. For a more enjoyable experience (although slower play), stop and play down the hill at Wolf Run.

Customer Service

What customer service?

No starter to tell you anything about the course. We could have played the private course and no one would have known.

Saw the drink cart on hole 3 making last calls. Drink stand/deli was closed by the time we made the turn.

Apparently they don't get a lot of afternoon play. Our cart died on hole 17 and there was no one to contact.

0 out of 5 stars.

Shoots in the 80s

This is the best golf course in Reno hands down. The practice area is excellent, with a large putting green, chipping/pitching green with practice bunkers and an excellent driving range. The public Challenge course puts a premium on shot placement with rolling, uneven fairways that rarely provide an even lie. Greens are fast and true. They were relatively firm the day we played. Forced carries over dry washes and brush make for solid shotmaking ability. Great views of the Sierra Nevada and the city. Very little margin for error on this challenging course.Minor attention to waste bunkers would be appreciated.

Customer Service

Good overall. Pro shop staff is friendly as are the kids who run carts. Starters can be a little uptight... Attentive beverage cart girls.

Shoots in the 80s

There are 2 courses here. The Challenge, a private course, and The Legend, the public course. This is one of the better golf courses in the Reno area. The course rolls and tumbles it''''s way through the foothills of the Sierras with tremendous views of the city and the Sierra Mountains. The course has good challenge with a number of up- and down-hill shots. Conditions are generally superb, however, greens are hard and roll like crazy. They are, however, very true and are kept this way. Fairways are also in superb condition and also roll like crazy. The course is not particularly long so you can leave your driver in the bag for a great many holes. Accuracy and placement is a must for this course. Also playing the course several times will give you insight into where the balls roll in different parts of the fairways. This course is best walked although that can be strenuous. The course can be pricey. I agree with the review below me. I too had problems getting on the driving range. Just not enough slots for the amount of patrons. So I had to be happy with chipping. All in all, a great track and worthwhile playing while in Reno.

Customer Service

Upon entering the course you are assaulted by people who insist on carrying you bags and loading them on to a cart despite being 10 yards from the drop area. I am a self sufficient person and I prefe

It''''s a nice facility. Has everything, restaurant, bar, range and practice area. Although getting on the range seems to be tough. The pro shop is good but not as good as that at Wolf Run just dow

Shoot in the 80s

Showed up AM on a Sunday. Went to get the cart, they told us no carts in the parking lot. What? Ok, will go haul are bag to the cart about 200 yards away, Oh, sir we will get your bags, Oh no worry kid, I got it, I'm just a little lazy from to much nite-life, went over to the practice area, RANGE CLOSED!!!! What, oh no, I'm ahead of the tournement I'm in by six strokes, I'm dying to get some swings in. :( Well I settled for the chipping area, nice, large area with balls stacked up everywhere. Took some chips and noticed the green was hard, rock hard! On to the putting green, fast! Lighting fast! Everything breaks hard toward the valley, really hard w/ 10-12 stimp greens! We played the Legends course, I new I was in trouble when I 3 putted the 1st hole! 2nd hole I'm deep in a HUGE green side bunker. Well the course turned out to be one of the toughest days I've had in awhile. The wind came up and the greens would not hold any shots, chips where like hit it and prey it stops before it's running off the green. Had a nice time, you know its a nice course when you get to 15 or 16th and you say, wow, were almost done already?
Oh yeh, I must admit it, I ended up tie 2nd :(

Pulled a Norman.
