I played this course because it was one of the courses in the Mass Tour card I purchase. The people in the club house we're very friendly and helpful. The course is in horrible condition, they should consider closing for 2 seasons to grow grass on the tees and greens. Yes this a very difficult course but was made unplayable due to poor course conditions. Not a course for a recreational golfer or high handicapper. I was very disappointed not with the difficulty but so many greens and tee boxes were unplayable.

Customer Service

Helpful and friendly.

The design is like nothing else I have ever played, just the uniqueness of the layout makes it worth the trip. The way the course has been intigrated into the stunning landscape is really exceptional. The course website has an excellent player's guide that really helps with course management.

The condition of some greens and many bunkers are in need of help, but the scenery more than makes up for any minor issues. The course is definitely tough--plan on taking a bruised ego away from the experience.

I can't recommend the experience of playing this course enough--bring your sense of humor and appreciate the views as you go.

Customer Service

Excellent--the people are very friendly.

The Shattuck isn't just a golf course. It's an experiance unlike any other. A test of your true skills. It can make you feel as if your tiger woods one minute than a 40 handicap the next. To enjoy your round here you should'nt be a critic of your game, but one just trying to understand the majesticness of it, go play on the truest test in golf.

Customer Service

great. everyone is trying to add to your experiance

Played on a Monday under their "All you can" special. For $44 you get unlimited golf, cart for the day, and all you can eat burgers and dogs. Shattuck is one of the most beautiful courses in New England. It's also one of the toughest. You don't have to be a big hitter, but you do need to control the ball. We managed to get in 36 holes this day. The first 18 we played from the white tees. Irons were often the club of choice off the tee - there's just too much trouble to avoid, and length is not needed on most holes. It's definately target golf. I managed to make it to the 9th hole before I lost my first ball, and only lost 2 for the round. This felt like victory by itself! I shot 94, about 8 strokes over my average. And I felt like I played very well. If shooting a high number will damage your psyche, you probably want to steer clear of Shattuck. The second 18 we teed it up from the blues. A completely different look on most holes. Especially intimidating is a 190 yard par three, over the swamp, to a narrow green. My score (105) and ball count (7 or 8) ballooned. Still, it was a fun and interesting experience. I think it would humble me too much to play the course everyday. But it's a nice distraction a couple of times a year. $44 for 36 holes at a course of this caliber is a steal.

Customer Service

Clubhouse was top notch. Cooking was a little slow at the Grill. Beverage cart was MIA for the first 18. Just about followed us around the 2nd 18.

this place stinks, we drove 2.5 hours to get there and find out we couldn't play 18. they said we didn't need a tee time, they'd take care of us when we got there. We showed up at 3, and they said we could tee off at 4. when contemplating our move of playing or not an angry golfer stormed in and demanded his money back saying it took him 1.5 hours to play 4 holes. it would have taken us over 6 hours to play, after the gentleman at the pro shop assured us we could play 18 if we teed off at 4. It must stay light out until 10 in New Hampshire. There is no starter and no ranger, Sterling golf should be ashamed of themselves.

This course is absolutely stunning. Of course it always helps to shoot well if you want to have a good time, and that is hard to do at this course. Still you can't help but take in your surroundings and be impressed. There are plenty of beautiful holes here. Each one seems to have it's own character. All 18 holes here could probably pass as signature holes on most other golf course. The only downside is if you are a beginner or are struggling, you will lose alot of balls. Not only are the tee shots treacherous on most holes, so are your approach shots. Still definetly worth a look. Has to be one of the best golf courses in New England, and as a public course, there can't be too many better in the Northeast when it comes to scenery. I'm glad Sterling saved this course.

Wow! I played The Shattuck a few weeks ago and couldnt beleave the changes. The course had been in financial trouble with declining conditions for a number of past years but was just purchased by Sterling Golf Management this past spring. Conditions were the best I have seen in years, excellant greens, tees and fairways! I usually shoot mid 80's but shot a great 94 here that day and was thrilled. What a test of golf and THE most beautiful scenic round you will play! They have been clearing a lot of brush to open the course up more and make it more playable and created a players guide that was a savior in teaching us how to best play the course. They also have installed directional posts on this beautiful target course to tell you where you need to be on each shot to score. If you havent made a trip to this gem you need to do it!!

Customer Service

Great friendly welcoming staff, they wanted you to have a great round

Shoot in the 80s

Absolutely brutal course, one of the most difficult outings a hacker can have. We all shot about 10 strokes higher than usual, though we all rallied for the back nine after an abysmal front nine.

This course has a lot of control on the golfer--i.e. you need to lay up a lot because a huge meadow is planted 220 yards from the tee, the you need to lay up again because another meadow is planted before the green (you get the idea). Some golfers may like this, but my three friends and I found it quite annoying. It was challenging, to say the least.

The greens are very fast and, frankly, could be in better shape. They need more grass---most greens are a mixture of hard-pan dirt and some grass, making them quite difficult to master.

The course is quite scenic being that it is way out in the woods next to the mountains, and the club house doesn't even have a pay phone, so you can forget the world for a while. This is a good thing, because you will be totally overwhelmed by the course, itself. Slope from the Men's white tees is 140. They give you six free balls and lunch if you go mid-week, but you might want to bring some extra balls. Pars feel like birdies, here.

All in all, I may go back some day, but I will have my absolute "A" game before I do. You have been warned!

Incredible track with excellent views of Mt Monadnock. This is probably the best layout in New England, but has a few problems with conditioning and facilities. Three great par fives, seven excellent par fours, and two good par threes make this an extremely memorable experience. But bring your best game. Par is WELL protected.
