overall had a great time at this course, actually i always have a great time, i play with great guys. but this course definitely offered a challenge, lost a few balls, the fairways are very narrow on some holes, and you are definitely punished if you dont hit a good tee-shot. at some points i really wished we had a range finder, the markers werent always easy to find. greens had been air raided like a week or so before, but they still played fine. the practice green was in worse condition then the course's. overall i had a great time, i would definitely play again.

I am reviewing the "Wild Turkey" GC which is a sister course located next to the Crystal Springs Golf Resort and Crystal Springs GC.

Wild Turkey is a 7202, par 71 tract opened in July, 2001. The course was designed by Roger Rulewich, who also designed Ballyowen.

The terrain of the course offers severe changes in elevation, which will test your iron game to the fullest. The greens are huge, with some over 50-yds deep (this is not a misprint). The par-3 10th plays 193 yds from the white tees, and you need only a 7-iron to reach the center of the green thanks to the 120 feet of elevation off the tee box. Naturally, the golf carts are gasoline powered to climb the steep grades. The course is open for public play and well maintained. Greens are bent grass and tend to be a little on the fast side, but not so much that you would be frustrated. In spite of the elevations, the course is forgiving in that errant tee shots are typically playable from the rough. The par 5's are a "sluggers dream" with wide fairways on 8, 11, & 17. The signature hole, #7 is a 164yd (white tee) 208yd (black tee)par-3 that requires a brave shot over a rock quarry INTO the prevailing wind. Let me tell you, I hit a 5-iron as well as I can and just made the fringe.

Bottom line here, you are going to love this course and have a lot of fun too. Well worth the money.

The rangers and starters dress in knickers ala Payne Stewart! Cute cart girls too! My favorite was the Halfway House which you can get hot burger or dog off the grill with chips and drink in under 2-minutes. Large clubhouse offers pro shop and restaurant/bar. My only complaint was with the players...unless you shoot near scratch, stay off the Black tees. We followed a foursome that insisted on taking several "mulligans" off the tee box, because they were out off their league from that distance. Rangers were way too patient with them in my opinion.

The strengths had to be the natural beauty of the surrondings and all of the diffrent type of shots I was asked to try and make. The course was also in good condition.

Certain holes seemed to have no answer. Whether it was a mogul or a flag stick that had no way of of getting to it or a green with a pond to divide it, it just seemed to punish you on both good and bad shots alike.

Crystal Springs is exactly what I have heard from other people at the resort. Adult sized putt putt golf. It is like an arcade game. I know it is near a ski resort but did they have to add the moguls to every hole. Shots in the fairway are as likely to end up in the rough as the fairway. The signature 10th hole with its 90 foot drop is beautiful but the three part green divided by water is a first in my experience. My poor tee shot to the GREEN led to a difficult 4 putt that I was relieved to make. The beauty of the course has been taken away by the hundreds of townhomes along the course. I am sorry to the couple who watched me search in their backyard for I ball I thought I hit in the fairway. DAM ski moguls. Distance was fair, elevation changes were fun, greens were true and the rock quarry holes were diffrent.

Ranger seemed alittle pushy as we were asked to push the pace even though there was nobody behind us. Beverage carts were numerous and the food and the turn was great.

Enjoyable enough course to play, I wanted to confirm the experience of another writer about the conduct of officials. We were warned about speed of play even though we had no one behind us and the course was clearly empty. We had a client who had difficulty with the course, and we did conform to golf etiquette by letting a group behind us play through. There are others courses just as challanging with better customer service.

This golf course is highly overated. The first 3 holes they must have had dirt ledtover because the "architect" got carried away with "gumdrops" in the fairways. Showed up an hour before signed in with the starter for an 11:00 tee off time hit the putting green and asked if I could go out at 10:30 since nobody was waiting. I was told I had to wait until 11:00 even though nobody teed off between 10:30 & 11:00. I played and stayed on time by their standards but was told to speed it up even though the nearest group behind us 4 holes behind. In summary not a particularly challenging course. By the way my home course is Bethpage Black for $32 it is a steal compared to the 100 dollars this pretentious course costs.

fairways are kept in great condition. rough is very difficult to save par in when its at its longest length. greens are very quick in june and july and usually run about a 12 or 13 on the stimp.

just the price is getting a little high

What a great course. the front nine plays alot harder because of many elevation changes. Since the new clubhouse has been opened the front nine is now a 37 not a 35. the winds are always gusting here and there is never an easy shot even if your in the fairway. the 10th hole is such a beautiful hole. hitting off a cliff and down to a hole more then 90 ft down is very hard especially when the wind is blowing. one day u could be hitting an 8 iron and another u could be hittinh a 4 or 5 iron. back nine is also difficult but not as hard now because they made the old 18 into the new 1.

One of the most challenging courses that I have played. An errant shot will penalize you with a poor lie or a hazard. Signature 10th hole is breathtaking 90 foot drop to trilobed green.

review. This is the nicest course in North Jersey.

The scenery is great. Many interesting holes. Your round will never get boring on this course! Not an overly long course, you just have to keep it in play.

Too many uneven lies even on well struck shots in the fairway. Greens get way too fast during the middle of the summer.

Course was rated in 1997 as the hardest course in NJ. I can tell you, it deserves it. Many uneven lies even in the fairway. Once they let the rough grow, you must keep the ball in the fairway and hit the green with your approach. Sometimes they let the rough get very close to the green which really makes your short game hard. Last summer after playing my round I spoke with the Head Groundskeeper. They had the stimp up around 11. The summer before in which we had a drought, he told me they were rolling most of the time around 13 - 14 on the stimp. Once they get that fast, it is almost impossible to play well on this course.

Keep it in the fairway , except for adjacent light rough it is easy to get in trouble. Course has enough variety that it is almost like playing different courses depending where you lie. Par 3's (#4,#8,#10,#12,#14) are all different and no piece of cake. #10 is a gorgeous par 3 (130>>180 yds) off a ~ 80' cliff over water to a tri-lobed green backed by a hilly rock outcropping.

Many tee locations tend to be slightly sloped and somewhat uneven ground surface.

Beautiful course and scenery. Very interesting but rather tight course. Course winds around very hilly terrain with front nine in currently undeveloped terrain. Back nine winds around large wetland area among developed areas(homes,condos, townhomes. Another course "Wild Turkey" is being built adjacent to this course. I play it 3-4 times a week. Only the 6th hole of the(par 4's& 5's) is straight away on course. All others have dogleg, turn or water. Fairways are generally narrow and undulating. You can quite often get an uphill,downhill or sidehill lie in fairway! Elevation difference (hill) between cart path and fairway is 10-20'in many places. If it's "cart paths only" you will get your exercise. Very well maintained course tees, fairways and greens and kept in good shape.
