White Oaks Country Club - Golf courses, Newfield, New Jersey

White Oaks Country Club - Golf courses, Newfield, New Jersey

DESCRIPTION

The owners call it a "feel-good golf course", one that makes you think you''re on a much more expensive layout. The par 71, 6,500-yard (from the tips, about 6,100 from the whites) 18-hole layout is managed by Golf Pro Todd Prohammer. The course features dramatically tall oak trees that line and separate the holes. The natural sloping of the golf course emphasizes pinpoint positioning of golf shots making this a real target golf layout. This is especially true on two of White Oaks'' many signature holes. The dogleg par 5 #7 measures 621 yards and the par 4 #9 hole forces the golfer to play a second shot over water to one of two greens. And to finish, #17, a 240-yard par 3 has been voted "Toughest Par 3 in South Jersey", mostly because of the contour of the green. Bunkering is extensive and the greens have a great deal of slope, even if they are somewhat slow. On the negative side, there are perhaps too many short par fours. I like a good short par four mixed in, but the course really could use about 200-400 more yards total. And there are several "water hazards" that have no water in them. This leaves them as somewhat of a no man''s land of neither a waste area nor a pond. There is apparently some construction going on in these areas this spring, hopefully to rectify this. The clubhouse is great with the Oak Room Restaurant that sees many groups and couples coming to just for dinner. Everything is in miniture compared to a "real" country club, but every bit as nice. Oak and brick is the theme and there is a nice veranda overlooking the course.

This course is a mess. The owners have totally let it go to waste. The greens have more dirt than grass, impossible to putt. The fairways are either crabgrass or dirt. The bunkers are ponds. This used to be a decent course, I dont know what has happened there, but its a disaster now. With the rain we have had this summer, you would think they could grow grass like the rest of south Jersey courses. Do NOT waste your money here.

Very nice course, although not easy to find. Layout is different than most with a long(600+ yds.) par 5 and many challenging par 4's. Water, trees and bunkers are well placed to force one into making tough decisions on many approach shots. Some elevation changes, but nothing outstanding. Course condition was excellent with few weeds and well maintained as groudskeepers were busy all day. Greens are challenging and fast.

Customer Service

The proshop guy was a bit snippy and the starter was absent for about 5 minutes. Ranger was very friendly and active. Cartgirl is one of the best around with mounds of charm. :)

Nice course with very nice fairways which are kept well. Greens are fast, hard and mostly well maintained. Good layout that keeps the holes seperated. Round was quick: a slow senoir foursome let us play through and we were done in under 4 hours. Pricey, but ok for the overall experience.

Pro shop guty was a bit testy, bagboy took some time took get his act together. Ranger was very nice and helpful. Grounds keepers were busy all day. Cart girl is the best around

Great course. Well manicured. Greens are fairly fast and fair. Constant being maintained and the ranger tries to keep play moving. An out of the way location, but well woth the ride. A bit pricey, but one of the best bargains for a course resembling a private club.

Customer Service

Good people in the proshop. Starter was a little lax. Cartgirl makes the round worth it.

Close to Pennsauken in many ways, except this layout shows more imagination and White Oaks is more bucolic.
