Strength:

Nice views of the mountains.

Weakness:

Played the course when there are 8 of the holes cart path only. Hole no. 2 is under repairs and is closed to carts. The sand traps are hard as rocks and difficult to hit through. The green on No. 13 is slanted so much that your ball comes right back to your feet. This isn't a fair green for anyone. There are two holes where the white tee box was moved up to the red tees, which shortened each hole. The pace of play was too slow- 4 hours and 45 minutes on a Friday. Golf course lack GPS so you have to guess the yardage. Some greens are so big that it takes a looong putt to get close to the hole. Maybe its the fall, but this isn't a course as good as it used to be.

For a municipal golf course, it's not bad. Back 9 has a superior layout compared to front. SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Bay Lea desperately needs a proactive ranger to keep the pace of play resonable.

Bey Lea is, for all intents and purposes, pasture golf. It has a spartan clubhouse and minimal practice area with no driving range. The course is open and relatively treeless with extremely large greens, many of which are fairly undulated. It is a good course for beginners because trouble is hard to find on most holes. This course begs you to grip it and rip it. Bey Lea defends par with its greens on most holes. By any standard the greens are huge, so players can expect some very difficult lag putts during the round. Considering that the greens are "muni" quality, a player that hits a lot of greens in regulation will need to be lucky or good to avoid any three putts. The strength of the course lies in the second half of your round. Starting with #8, the quality of the holes raises markedly. It is an overstatment to say that any of the holes here are great, but the course does transition from very bland pasture golf to more reasonably considered and constructed holes. Holes to note: #8 is a good one shot hole that tumbles down from an elevated tee to a large green protected by water to the right. #10 plays into a valley and up a hill to a plateau green that is not visible from the lowest points of the fairway. With a creek to the right and a lake long and to the left, long hitters might consider a lay up on this hole. It is one of the few holes on the course that requires some strategy. #11 is a decent short par 4 that also requires some discipline off the tee. Although there is ample room to miss on the right, the only reasonable approach shot is from the left side of the fairway. #13 has the most difficult green on the course. Sloping severely from back to front, it is imperative that the player keep the ball below the hole on his approach shot. Pin high on either side of the cup can be an easy three-putt. #16 is probably the most difficult hole on the course due to the penal nature of the tee shot. Left is OB and water guards the entire length of the right side of the hole. #18 is an odd finishing hole that requires a lay up by all but the extremely long hitters due to a pond that bisects the hole. Lay up to a flat part of the fairway if you know what is good for you. Bey Lea is average golf at its most average. Not terrible but not worth a long ride either.

Usually in good shape. If you plan on playing this course, figure about 5-6 hours because this is the slowest moving course that I have ever played. It could be raining on a Wednesday and you still will not finish a round under 4 hours.

I have played many courses over my years and this one is my favorite. The course is kept in great shape and it looks pretty good during the worst of heat waves, etc. All parts of the course are maintained and manicured to go along with weather conditions.

Customer Service

Everything re:customer service at this course is exceptional. Never had a bad experience in over 5 years playing here.
