Riverwinds Golf Club - Golf courses, West Deptford, NJ

Riverwinds Golf Club - Golf courses, West Deptford, NJ

DESCRIPTION

The golf course at RiverWinds stays true to the heritage of historic courses in Scotland and Ireland. Nestled in the grasslands between scenic Woodbury Creek and the deep-harbor marina on the Delaware River, the 18 –hole championship course invokes visions of seaside golf. The water, surrounding wetlands, and a mile-long twisting berm create an intriguing setting. Across the river are breathing views of the Philadelphia skyline.

I love this course. Its hard and it can be long when the tees are placed right. Back is too far and they put the whites up too far at times
I've seen whole flocks of turkeys and there's Bald Eagles too.

Customer Service

Good, cart girl didn't understand that driving up passed the green while people were putting was wrong, but no big deal.

First off, DISREGARD any review about this course before 2009. I wouldn't play here back then either. It did stink!

However, I've lived in S. Jersey for 6 years now & have had memberships at 5 different courses. Hopefully, as I am a member here, I won't have to change ever again. There have been VAST improvements in the course since mid-2009 when Ron J. got involved. The swamp bunkers have been repaired/replaced & the fairways & greens are solid (and getting even better each year). Most importantly management, especially the Pro/GM (Tim), knows golf & is committed to making this place a great course to play. It's the best public layout in the area & the winds (off the Delaware river) can come into play on every hole. So, the course can play a bit different each day. Also, despite the initial ride from the clubhouse to the 1st tee, it is very walkable. And as someone who primarily plays late afternoon golf, on this course you can get out & play a quick nine & not be rushed off the course by leagues every day. To summarize, a great layout that still has the potential to be one of (if not) the best course in the area. Now however, you finally have a management team in place that will push this course towards that potential.

Customer Service

Tim (the Pro/GM) is just outstanding. He knows golf, he knows golf course management & he knows how to deal w/ customers. All the pro shop & course staff are good people.

I wanted to add an update as I played this weekend and was someone skeptical based on the prior reviews. Thankfully none to worry. I thought the course was a great value for 65 bucks. The tee boxes, the fairways, and the greens were all in great shape. Im not one to care what shape the cart paths are in b/c it does not matter. They had us drive on the fairways anyways. Needless to say, i will be playing here again. Not your traditional golf atmosphere with clubhouse and whatnot but what i liked was that there was plenty of land for the course and there were no houses to worry of. Definatly needs a second play as the distances off many of the tee's can be somewhat tricky for optimal position for your second shot. Round only took 4 1/2 hrs and that was great as well for a public track of such a reasonable price on a saturday morning.

Customer Service

No complaints, plenty of water on the course and the cart girls were always close by.

The course could be beautiful if maintenance was done. Very disappointed. Needed watering just basic upkeep.

Customer Service

Went with Bachelor party supposed to be fun. The manager was constantly on us to move it along. keep it down. When there wasn't even any body close behind. Very rude. Would not recommend if looking for a nice day out with the boys.

Jaws should be embarrassed to have his name on this course. The layout has promise but the course is in shambles....The Cart Paths remind me of a war torn country - Craters everywhere, Standing water - Not one bunker was playable. MOLD on the greens

I am not a Country club golfer - I am used to playing municipal courses in Philly i.e. Walnut Lane & JFB, these courses are in better playing condition.

Customer Service

Staff was fine - feel bad that they have to work at a worn down dogtrack

Shamefull/Beautiful course. Absolutely pleasant on the eyes as long as you aren't looking at the cart paths or the bunkers. I would estimate that 3 of 10 bunkers is filled with water, and one in particular on the back of a green is a swamp. The layout is fantastic and challenging. Bring extra balls, if you miss the fairway and the first cut, it's lost. Not a bad price, for the area.

Customer Service

Staff were friendly and flexible. Couldn't ask for much more from them.

I will start out by saying this course has sooooo much potential. I have played here several times over the past couple years. The course layout/Design is great (Cart-Paths are a wreck, potholes everywhere) - I hope someone can put some money and time into making this course top notch b/c the potential is definitely there.

I was a member at riverwinds for the 2004 to 2007 season. Without mentioning names the original owners expected granger from this place taking out a balloon morgage with just a lease on the property that was owned by West Depfort township. This course was great in every way for two years that I was there except for no club house. The third year showed signs of things to come and I found out later the owners secretly put the course up for sale. So they found a buyer and did not take of the course. No fertlizer no nothing. UMM, I found this info the fouth year when the signs of this pityfull course started to show disrailment. That year, also my last year,Was a joke. I found that the new owners were in the resturant buisness not golf the ground that the course stood was still leased and owned by west depfort township. So the second owners ether went under or was bought off. Who wins, West depfort. Now the Ron Jaworski group is going to manage riverwinds for them. The soga continues.

Customer Service

The workers there were very nice and pleasant to be with. I was not there when the second owners took over in 2008 but by the other reveiws it got ugly.

There are many pros and cons to this course first the cons, this course has the worst pro shop i have ever seen. They have no equipment and very few brands of balls for sale. With the exception of the starter all the staff was very rude and pushy. Also once your out on the course you don't see the club house until the round is over and no one drives around with food or drinks. Now for the pros, the course is fantastic. The greens are finally in good shape now and are rolling great. I played the course from the tips and it was very challenging, demanding tee shots long approach shots ect. For the 30 bucks i paid to play I would say its a good deal, if your not a single digit handicap though I would not play the tips.
