Shoots in the 80s

Ah how quickly the Essex County Country Club members are to separate themselves from the Francis Byrne golf course. Here is is a History 101 lesson. The Essex County Country Club use to own two courses, the East (present Essex county CC) and the West (Francis Byrne GC). Financial difficulties forced the Club to sell one of its courses to the county, that being Francis Byrne. The FBGC as it stands now is in horrible shape if one were to compare it to when it was a CC; however, let's not forget where the course originated.

Reiterating the comments of JoeGolfer, "Bob" has got the wrong course. He is referring to the Francis Byrne Public Course of Essex County - hardly a comparison with the golfer's paradise that is Essex County Country Club (Private).

The previous reviewer, Bob who shoots in the 80's from Clifton, Nj was writing about the wrong golf course. The Essex County Country Club is a private golf course that I'm sure Bob has never played and they do not have a board that you have to pay $3 to get on. The Essex County Country Club staff is the best around, and the golf course is magnificent!

Course is moderately difficult. It has some interesting holes, but the greatest challenge may be keeping your cool.

I am alluding to the rough around the edges County Staff and it's controversial charges. If you arrive without a reservation and put your name on the "board" you may find
yourself paying for services you never used...such as the
reservation system. There is a $3.00 charge even if you
do not use the system. At least thats what they charged me.

Secondly, it is not a good place to take young kids.
Not a family atmosphere.

You get lots of "What the f---" this and "what the f---"
that. PLENTY OF IT FROM THE STAFF and their good buddies.
Lots of good buddies. Sounds like you are in the "Sopranos"
television series.

They County tried to correct this problem once but the goodfellas have returned.

Otherwise, conditions are good. Very crowded on weekends.
Decent layout.
