This course has a great layout, however, it is poorly maintained. Most of the tee boxes are beat up. The fairways are like the rough. The rough is chewed up grass. The bunkers need work.

Customer Service

These are county employees, Don't expect too much. It would help if they had rangers moving players along

I grew up playing Francis Byrne and it is a great course, especially for a municipal course. It was originally a second 18 at Essex County Country Club, just above it, but was sold in the 50's to the county. Because of this the course has a lot more character in both hole layout and gree contours, characteristics often hard to find in municipal courses. The course is very well maintained considering the incredibly high volume of players which go through every day as well as working on a limited county budget. Overall a great course for a decent price. (Unless you have a county card and then its a steal)

Shoots in the 90s

This is really tough course with only 1 par 5's. What make this tough is that the slop is really daunting on the green and fairway is narrow with tree's surrounding it. When you miss the fairway or hit on the edge, which is easy from the tee, you are either in the thick stuff or under a canopy of tree branches. Push your luck and get tangled up or watch the balls bounce off the branches. Finally making it to green, the putts fly easily off the green on down hill and many breaks on the up hill. This is short game nightmare course. Long helps, but not as much as good up/down and putts. It's a good course, especially given that $15 for a round. Even wknd rounds are only $22 with reservation. Best $$$ for your frustrations.

Customer Service

It's public course - let's be realistic.
