Montclair Golf Club is by far one of the best courses I have played in New Jersey. It is actually the second oldest course in the state, a fact which is very clear in it's classic layout and mature feel of the surroundings and ambiance. Although somewhat short it is my no means an easy course. The greens are extremely fast and undulating putting pars at a premium. Carpet-like fairways and perfectly manicured bunkers only add to the overall experience. In addtion the fact that the Golf Club contains 4 individual nines instead of two 18 hole courses makes it even more unique. If you ever get the chance to play it twice this fact gives you the possibility to experience several different combinations, making each round similar yet completly different.

The rough - it makes accuracy a must. The greens - shadows from the trees, a "scalloped" fringe, combined with it''s quickness, will frustrate the golfer. The layout - four unique nines

This course challenges you to make par. Hilly terrain, greens that punish you, and fairways that must be hit. Though short, this course allows for very few mistakes on all of its four nines.

Some greens are too severe

Classic, pristine, awesome.
Some greens are so severe it is difficult to keep the ball on the green. Some level putts appear to be straight downhill due to the terrain. Truly, one of the nicest private courses in the state.
