UNM North is one of two courses for UNM, with the other being the famous championship course UNM South.

As time has gone on UNM has seemed to care less about the North Course and I think it will eventually see its end, especially the way things are going now.

The course is fairly challenging, the wholes are not the longest. It is a rather short course. The par three's are very simple to get through, especially if you have been playing a while. There are some challenging par fours on this course, especially holes four and five.

The course is in ok shape, it is not in the greatest shape, especially when you compare it to UNM south. The greens are a little on the rough side, they are really slow on some wholes, even downhill putts don't have much speed.

One of the biggest negatives of this course is that there is no driving range now.

Most of the time there are no tee times, it is first come first serve, which is nice, you can just tee right off and be finished early.

Overall an ok course but it's nowhere near as good as UNM south.

Customer Service is not the best. Some employees have a real attitude problem.

The up hill 4th hole is the most challenging, due to the very small green. On the par five 9th, if you can make it around the dog leg right, the geen is reachable in two. I always thought the #1 tee was a par 4 until last time I play when I found out it is a 5. Great value, but it does play relatively easy. I shot my best 9 hole score here (39) and I usually shoot low 90's on 18 holes. I gave it an overall rating of 4 stars out of albuquerque's public courses.

Strenghts are price, convenience to downtown, and ease of walking on at virtually any day or time. Tee times are required on weekends during Spring and Summer months, but whenever I've arrived on Sat. or Sun. I was able to join a group within minutes. The course is open all year.

Course has lots of sandy dirt and is often in need of grooming. The smallish greens are hard to hold and have virtually no break. Also, there's no driving range but there are two practice greens which allow for putting and pitching practice.

A nice, inexpensive, little course only a few minutes from downtown Albuquerque. Once this was a sprawling 36-hole course, but as the university expanded it was cut down to only 9. Several of the holes are challenging, especially a sequence of three par fours (4,5 & 6). The two par 3s are fairly simple, but sand demands accuracy. One plays about 150 yds., while the second plays at around 200. There are no water hazards. The two par 5s are vastly different. The first should by all rights be a par four. I'm a medium hitter and routinely reach or roll over the green in two. The second is an epic dogleg that's virtually impossible to reach in two. The fairways are fairly well maintained but the small greens aren't much to speak of. It's very difficult to hold most of the greens on the course. Also, there's a lot of sandy dirt between fairways and large cottonwoods abound in these dirt areas. The greenskeepers tend to let the fairway grass get a little too long before cutting it, and the roughs can become very rough indeed. I've lost balls in the rough, just off the fairways. The course is surrounded by a jogging trail which attracts a lot of residents and university students. Most are respectful and careful, but you must be ready to yell "fore" on many holes. Also, some of the joggers can be VERY distracting, especially to we male players. The real beauty of this course exists in its convenience, price ($11 on weekdays and $12 on weekends to walk), and availability. You can walk on at virtually any time. There are lots of singles, so it's very easy to join others. Driving carts are available but seldom used. Club rentals and pull carts are also available. The clubhouse is small, but always staffed and stocked with the essentials. Alcohol is prohibited, but I've never seen the marshals do anything about drinking on the course. Water fountains and portable bathrooms are positioned around the course.
