Shoots in the 90s

This course was magnificent. Even though we played in a steady rain, one could still see and feel the beauty of this course. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape...and so was the rough! If you're not in the fairway on your drive there is no way to post a good score. Living on LI for most of my life I was amazed at the topography of this course. In a land of flat, 'potato fields', Atlantic is a rare gem.

Customer Service

Staff at the course were extremely pleasant, the facilities were first rate. As opposed to one reviewer's statement, I found the caddies to be excellent. Our caddy was knowlegeable, very informative and never missed a line on the greens. Normally shooting in the 90's and with a tendency to 'scatter' my drives, every single shot was found immediately by our caddy. If not for him I surely would have lost a least a half dozen balls in the rough.

Shoots in the 80s

I can't believe the previous reviews are for the same course I play. The course is always in perfect shape, there are no tee times due to very limited membership and pace of play is ideal. The design is subtle, so those who like tricked-up courses and water hazards are bound to be underwhelmed. The architecture is classic and understated, and consequently takes a bunch of rounds to be fully appreciated. Fairways are very generous but your ball must find the fairway or high scores are certain. Because of the fescue, if you dribble the ball off the tee, you simply are not going to be able to find it. The greens are flat out pro quality and are the one area the caddies can really help you. Grain is absolutely key here, because you will watch balls seem to break uphill from time to time-- all putts tend to break toward the pond near the clubhouse. Atlantic is lovely, challenging and the atmosphere is great if perhaps a little formal for my taste. It may not be a top 40 course in America, but it's definitely top tier. One golf buddy of mine declared after his first and only round there that it was his 3rd favorite club he's played-- it came in behind Pebble Beach and Pine Valley at 1 and 2 respectively, and ahead of Stanwich and Winged Foot. I'm really not sure what the gripes I'm reading here are about.

Shoots in the 80s

Hard, hard, hard. The day I played it, the fairways were quite narrow and the fescue quite tall. I found the holes to be a bit boring after awhile with very little variety. If you're not a straight hitter, don't try to get on in regulation on every hole, you'll do worse. At 7,200 yards, I ended up trying to reach with 3 iron and 3 wood approach shots. Needless to say, I should've laid up and shot for bogeys. I would have preferred to play tees closer up, but it wasn't my decision. No opinion on the "value" as I was a guest and wasn't allowed to pay.

Customer Service

Very nice facility. Low number of members creates a low key atmosphere. Caddies were average at best. I've had better elsewhere.

Driving range was quite nice and the bar was relaxing and quiet after the round.

I think that this club is one of the best clubs ive been too. The maintenance was great. It was a clean club. The green was in top condition.
