These are my home courses; I play them because they are close to my home, but they are not my favorites. Pelham is the forgiving course and Split Rock is the challenging one. Last year (2006), they had the best putting greens in the region.

During the mosquito season, I would not recommend these courses. The management company (American Golf) cannot spray the courses because of constraints that are tied in with the NYC-at least that’s what I’ve been told (unofficially). Other than the mosquito season, you should try the courses.

Customer Service

Not bad. It's a public course type of service and I've seen a lot worse in other places.

Other NYC public courses, some like Dyker in Brooklyn and La Tourette in Staten Island are nicer.

I've played both Pelham and Split Rock. Pelham was decent, but I just played split rock today, and although it was a beautiful day for golf, the course was pathetic in too many spots. In many parts of the course the rough was better than the fairway. It was dead, dried up grass, with bunkers that completely unkept- full of rocks and even weeds. Add to the list an hour wait beyond the scheduled tee time, unbelievably slow play and something which I assume is beyond the course's control- more mosquitoes than I have ever encountered in one place. Sound like fun? Definitely not.

This course is in Semi Decent condition. Be sure to watch out for the pothole on the golf cart path back to the garage.

The difference between Pelham and Split Rock are like night and Day. The Split Rock fairways are very narrow which makes the courses very difficult. Especially on windy days. Pelham has more open fairways, but watch out for that second hole (or is it the first hole?). There is a huge mound on the green so you have to anticipate that. I think that these are the best new york city golf courses (outside of the ones in Staten Island)
