Shoots in the 90s

Playing only about 10-15 rounds a year, I usually like trying courses i've never played before. But Colonial Springs is one I try to play once a year. Walking out of the clubhouse to the 1st tee, you feel as if you're playing the TPC. The course is almost always in great shape. The layout is quite enjoyable. My only drawback is that the course is heavily played, making a tee time at your convenience is difficult. Make a 9:00, and you might not tee off until 9:30.

Date of play - April 6, 2001

Colonial Springs offers 3 different nine hole courses - The Lake, The Valley, and The Pines. On this day we started our round on the Pines nine. As soon as we paid our green fee and got dressed it started to rain - we decided to play anyway - even if it meant only finishing nine holes because, as we all know, a day on a golf course is better than any day at work. For the first week in April the fairways seemed to be in good shape - not too tight but not too long either. The tee boxes were also in good shape. It was tough to guage the greens because they were soaked but they rolled fairly true despite the water build up.

The practice range is one of only a few on long island where you can actually hit off real grass - what a treat!
