No tee times required at this very relaxed 12 (yes, 12)-holer. The course offers it all, excellent teaching professionals, a driving range (partly covered and flood-lit), and chipping, putting and bunker practice facilities. This place opens early and closes late and the staff is very friendly. I haven’t visited the bar or small pro-shop yet, but they seem decent, too.

As far as the course itself is concerned, the holes are relatively short - mostly par 3 length, and test the short game more than anything else. I’d say the driver only need come out of the bag on holes 1, 7, 8, 9 and 12. Water comes into play on hole 2 and slightly less so on hole 11. There’s a marshy area on the very short 6th, which eats balls when wedge shots are altitude-challenged!

The toughest hole in my opinion is number 8, because of the thread-the-needle tee shot it requires and the sometimes ‘ponding’ water at the inside corner of the dog leg right. To get even close to rounding the corner on this one you need a long, left-hugging tee shot, which will set you up to reach the small-ish green in two.

On a somewhat amusing note, one member of staff once warned me not to venture into the woods (particularly along the entire right-hand side of the 12th hole) because I might encounter a Copperhead snake. I’d stick to their advice unless, like me, you’re willing to take a few careful steps into the woods because you fancy your chances against the critters as long as you have a wedge in hand.
