Rye Golf Club is categorized semi-private, parklike golf course. Membership is provided to residents of Rye for an annual fee.

The condition of the tees vary but I would say about 15 of the 18 tees are considered good. Fairways are overall in good shape and the flow of play is fair for this type of course. As with any town course, the knowledge of golf rules and etiquette varies and there are times when the play may exceed five hours and where one`s foursome is not let through despite a faster pace of play. On average though one should expect about 4.5 hours for 18 holes. The overall maintenance is good although more work could be done with the immediate rough (where the writer has spent considerable time!).

The difficulty of the course is average and somewhat of a handicap booster for the average player. It`s a great course to spend a few hours at, at a fair price, in this area of NY.

It should be noted that the price for greenfee and cart amounts to $69. A non-member can only play the course if accompanied by a member.

The current facilities(food and drink)are currently somewhat provisional and are sold out of a kiosk. However, the 18th hole, a straight par 5, leads up to an old castle which is currently being renovated and will be open for business in 2001. This will add a considerably nice touch to the aftertalk at the "19th" hole.

This is a well maintained, semi-private course. This course is set up in the traditional style of older, New England style courses with fairways boardered by mature trees which put a premium on driving accuracy. The greens are the most impressive feature of the couse where the undulating greens combined with a lightning fast surface make some two putts an adventure. Throw in a couple of water holes which offer amazing views of the harbor containing half million dollar boats and you have a capable course as tough as the Brentwood Country Club. While it a challenging course in its own right, it does not present a stiff enough challenge for someone playing as consistant as I have been.
