Used to be a great course.

The greens are shot and need at least a year to come back around, no way that they'll be in tip-top shape this season, barring some miracle.

Well, the Spa course used to be a gem of a course but I played it this past Friday and I have to say it is in a deplorable state! I noticed a sign in the pro shop window stating something about the greens and the severe winter but paid very little attention to it, until I hit the first green! All of the greens are in a very bad state and are very nearly un-puttable. A few people I spoke with claimed that the greens are built on clay and that drainage was a problem...not too sure about this as the greens, to the best of my knowledge, have not been re-built in years. I think someone screwed up, big time!

The course can be very tough dependent upon weather conditions. Have no doubt that you need an "A" game to play well here. Very well maintained.

Since it's a great buy you'll have to get in line for tee times...you can phone in though...or, try to walk-on as a single. Many retired people play this course and believe it to be their own private country club...can't blame them! In the summer months you'll have to fight the horse racing crowd...playing can be a long and drawn out affair.

The Spa course is a real gem...owned by the State of New York but run by a private firm. The prices are right and the layout is excellent. A great setting in a great city...Saratoga.

Excellent course for the money. plays very difficult in dry conditions, but can go the opposite when wet. Really depends on greens conditions. Clubhouse newly renovated.
