It looks like the other reviews were submitted quite a while ago. The condition of the greens at Lochmere have deteriorated to the point that they are barely playable. Bare patches everywhere and crabgrass in several places. It was almost impossible to gauge a putt because of the inconsistency of the condition of the greens. The rest of the course is in pretty good shape. Tee boxes and fairways. But, the greens made it a no play course for me.

I'd agree with the other comments, that the course is a little flat, which means that it does lack a bit of variety and interest -- not helped by the fact that most of the holes are shortish par 4s, easily reachable with a short iron. And yes, the speed of play (on a Thursday morning in August) was very slow. But it's still a pretty enjoyable course, and the fairways were in excellent condition -- better than the greens, in fact.

HAD HEARD ALOT OF GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS COURSE BUT WASN'T IMPRESSED AT ALL. THE COURSE WAS VERY SHORT, WAS IN GOOD CONDITION AT THE TIME I PLAYED IT. NOT VERY CHALLENGING AND COMPLETELY NOT WORTH 50 BUCKS. PACE OF PLAY IS DEATHLY SLOW. THEY LET MEMBERS WALK EARLY IN THE MORNING ON WEEKENDS!

This venue is a sister club to Devils Ridge but not near the same test. Not that this is not an interesting layout it is but it's not the same type of challenge as it doesn't have the topographical elevation extremes. The same attention to maintenance is also present with a friendly staff to boot. To come south leaving a foot of snow it's
a treat for me to just be hitting balls.
To begin with the course is much flatter and if played as I did after a prolonged wet period it can play very tough and difficult, as the fairways were soft and did not allow much roll. To be fair, any course played in January, is only going to be a shadow of its self on a fair summers day! The dormant fairways and tight lies take some getting use to - but would I like to be elsewhere - not likely!
In other words bring your 'A' game 'cause you'll only get what you hit without any roll. But still better than shoveling white stuff.
The first par five you bump into is the 9th and at 536 yds. from the blues its tough when there is no roll and it's rated the #1 handy cap as well. The14th and the16th are both very good par 5's and I think the par 4,18th is the best whole on the course . You need to be long and straight and negotiate a long sweeping right turn with trees on the left and the driving range net on the right preventing any cut off to save distance to the green.
The practice facilities, driving range, bunker, putting green etc. plus general maintenance are all above par and very good as well as the staff afford the same courteous service received at the sister club.
I played the course under adverse conditions with rain and wind, so could not really appreciate the scenic views. However the finishing whole as I mentioned, stands out in my mind as a very well thought out hole and would bring me back again, hopefully in the spring.

Customer Service

The guys behind the counter were very helpful in providing directions to pro shops in the area. They also provided a few irons for me to try the practice facility as well
