Sunset Hills is a decent course at a great price. If you're just starting out, you'll like the open layout. More experienced players should enjoy the layout. It's not a long course, but there are a number of challenges along the way. The greens are small, not very fast, and are sometimes too bumpy. Also, every green is raised on a little platform, so anything running off the green will roll down a bit of a hill.

The price value for an 18-hole course. The location away from the city and residential areas. Fairly new clubhouse offers a comfortable place to eat and rest in the middle or after a round.

The conditions of the tee boxes leave something to be desired. Sometimes too many tee times booked on weekends promotes slow play.

This Mecklenburg County owned course is a good place to play for many beginners or intermediate players looking for a challenging course for relatively half of what you would play at a fancier course. The front 9 is sufficiently long and demanding though more than generous fairways. While the back 9 is tight with tree-lined fairways and demands good shot-making. The greens are relatively small targets which is good practice for anyone who likes to shoot at the flags.
