As the name states, The Challenge is a very challenging course. I highly recommend the course be played from the blue tees (closest to 6500 yards) if you are a fair to good player (< 95). The landing areas are fairly wide, but missing them can be quite penal. I really like the layout. From the blues, the par 3s range in length from 130 to 195 yards with a nice mix. I find the par 5s among the most challenging around - none of them are easy.

As others have said, it's overpriced. The "Under $25" designation is misleading. Maybe if you walk at 6pm it's under $25. Otherwise it's quite a bit more. I played it 5 or 6 times before I finally decided it wasn't my favorite. The layout is just a little strange. Fairways are fairly generous and in good shape, but the penalty for missing them is far too severe. Not just trees, but what seems like old growth forest with 4 feet of undergrowth. Plan on taking a penalty drop almost every time you miss a fairway, even if by just a few feet. Greens are generally in good shape, although the par 3 greens show heavy pockmarking, because everyone is hitting wedges into them. They are too short for my liking. Practice facility is good, except that you can't chip on the putting green and there is no alternate green where you can ship. This annoys me, because I like to chip quite a few before a round.

The name says it all. The bunkers are deep and everywhere to be found. The greens are excellent. The service is great but the bussy highways are a minus.

I've played this course 4 times - A good challange if you play from the correct tees! Otherwise you're in the woods and dead (mostly lateral hazards). 1 tee and 2 greens in view of I-40. Par 3s at 110, 150, 135 and 170 from the white tees. Short par 5's and a nice mix of par 4s. Previous experience is helpful - a few blind shots contain very penal hazards. Greens are in good shape but slow, tee boxes are often uneven. Accuracy is more valuable than length. Overall an enjoyable course kept in good condition.

The Challenge is just that! It is a very scenic and well layed out course. The course was in excellent shape, fairways are almost completely through transition. Bunkers consisted of the softest sand I have ever played in. The rough is still browned out, probably 3 weeks away from full green. Greens need to be mowed as do the tee boxes. All in all you need to play smart golf, no real need to take undo risks.

TWO WORDS - Hated IT!!!!!!
Absolutely the most overhyped $50.00+ course in the country. The whole course looked like hurricane hugo arrived before our round. This was after the starter informed us the course was "in excellent shape". I'm not sure what he was taking but it wasn't over the counter! I think the course was designed by a timbering company who cleared some fairways to knock down the trees but then decided the wood wasn't any good and pulled out. The Double Wide club house sealed the deal.

OVERPRICED to say the least. Cruddy little pro shop. Several holes 50 feet from the busiest interstate in NC! $54 to ride. Fans blowing on several greens is distracting. No ranger to pull the slow ass Tiger Wannabes off the course for holding up play. Beer cart girl drives like a maniac. 1/2 the Greens are under repair and you can't even chip onto them ! Can;t say enough about how bad this experience was. Right Doug ?
