Great layout and a fun course just a litte overpriced

I agree with the previous review. This course was a big disappointment at end of Feb. 2001. They promote a GolfDigest 4 star places to play moniker but 4 stars is not how I would lable it. To start, we had a good 1/2 hour wait to get off the 1st tee. The course layout was o.k. but unmemorable, the greens were a joke. They were thick with grainy sand with just a little grass growing through. No mention was made of this at the pro shop or when we booked the tee times. Definitely deserved a discount based on greens condition alone. Hyland struck me as a place where seniors with little game or out of towners who don't know better, come to play. I fell into the last catagory but I won't be fooled again. I hope for their sake that they have made improvements because they stood nowhere close to caliber of most other Pienhurst area courses.

The course has potential. Not difficult to figure out the first time you play it. The course has enough lenght so that you can use several of your clubs.

Just not very much to set the mood. A bit dull at times. suroundings should be improved. A flower or two maybe. Just something. GROUNDS CREW HAS NO RESPECT!!!

Very diappointed. Hyland is an average course that I can play anywhere in NC for $35.00. Greens are average to slow. The grounds crew cost me more strocks than anything I could do. Through the middle of my round it was if they were watching to interupt at the worst time. They yelled at others, they drove equipment up to the green while trying to putt, a guy in a boat collecting golf balls drove around directly in front of us while playing a par 3 over the water. The out lying areas while not bothersome to the golf are just not what you look for when paying a premium to play in Pinehurst.
