I played this course in the spring of '01 and remember enjoying the round quite a bit. There is a lot of elevation change and natural wetlands that make the course interesting and fun to play. However, when I played the course this past week (March '03), the course was not in anywhere near the same condition it was 2 years ago. They did not overseed with winter rye so the entire course was brown (except for 3 par 3's which just happend to be located on Airport road so that everyone driving by would see green fairways). The lack of overseeded fairways was compounded by the fact that it was really wet, so the course played like a big mud pit. The greens were in very nice shape (love the undulation and multiple pin possibilities). If I had reviewed this course 2 years ago, it would have a solid 4+ stars. This year, I'd say about 2.5 stars, the positives being the greens and lay of the land, and the negatives being the condition of the fairways and tee boxes. I enjoy the undulation of the greens and caries over hazards and wet lands, but it may not be a good course for beginners. The fairways are quite generous, so I wouldn't say its a difficult course and I think it does play shorter than its yardage indicates.

Clubhouse was nothing special, but it was not a big concern as I'm there to play golf, not sit in the clubhouse and watch TV.

This is a great course. Just played it last week and it was it great shape. The greens were very fast but soft for sticking approach shots. Plus, they let us play another 9 for free!!!

I have played many courses in this area and this will not be the last time I play it. I hope to get on this course everytime I visit the area. Well worth the money and time.

Needs a new clubhouse...but the girls in the grill are worth the visit alone...

This is the first Palmer course I have played. I cannot imagine all of them being as good as this one, but now I will search them out. We played it in March of 2001 and just came back. We were absolutely whipped after playing this course. Mentally, it is the most difficult I have ever played up to that point (Tobacco Road was even worse, two days later). The greens were like ocean swells with severe undulations up and down. The approach shots were the most difficult as most of them had large marsh areas in front that swallowed too many Pro V1's before I decided to switch balls. There were also many forced carries over the same stuff. My golf partners were cursing his name for the rest of the week, but I would play this every visit to Pinehurst area.

This is a great Arnald Palmer Design course. The greens roll very true and fast. You don't want to be above the hole on this course. The course offers a lot of varity and always seems to be in great shape every time I play there. I've played this course 5 times and always enjoy coming back to play it again. A must play if you are in the pineshurst area and a steal if you have "The Golf Card". It only cost me $35 to play with the card.

I cannot imagine how Rod in Durham only gave this course a 3 or 3.5 rating. It is an AWESOME course. Played it for the first time yesterday and while I did not play my best, just loved the course. It was in terrific shape, the greens were perfect, the fairways - spectacular. Plus they give you a sleave of Titleist just for showing up. I have played hundreds of courses and this is in my top five for sure, along with Tobacco Road, Treyburn CC, The Virginian (Aberdeen, VA) and Oyster Bay in Myrtle Beach (Sunset Beach). The Carolina is a must play when in the Pinehurst area. Very scenic with plenty of risk/reward holes. For sure one that you can score well on once you know the course a little better.

Played end June.2000. The $64 offSeason rate only cost us $44 as we had a coupon (included 3 balls).

Nice course, and it will get better as it grows in, and they build a clubHouse, etc. A lot of these "natural" areas (seem to be the trend around here these days), I don't care much for these, a bunch of weeds growing, but some really pretty holes, too. Overall, solid, challenging and fair.

The greens were very hard, tough to hold. But this made the greens solid and putt just as true as can be. They were a little fast, but get the ball rolling to the hole on the right line, and it went in.

More like a 3.5 rating. We'll play it again!
