Completely deceptive looks on every hole. A brilliant example of the Zen of course design. This golf course is a teacher, if you're open to the teaching.

What a deceptive course. Can make you think you had a bad day, even when you're hitting the ball where you want it to go. Local knowledge and postion off the tee are critical. Really made me appreciate the genius that is possible in course design. Almost every par-4 looks like a boring, strait-ahead hole, with no real problems in front of you. Then you walk to what you thought was a good tee shot, only to find that the tree that you thought was no concern is just tall enough, and just close enough to block your second shot. Then you have to try to work the ball around to the green, and if you don't stick it on the correct side of the green, your ball will roll off into the greenside rough. And what rough! Your ball sits up, and the shot looks easy. Then you find that the bluegrass(?) will catch your club and you won't get close to the pin, if on the green at all. The next hole is much the same, except this time the rough only LOOKS like bluegrass, and you swing harder and fly your pitch shot over the green! I found myself chuckling over and over again, and really taking my hat off to the course. Pure treachery. A 3-card monte of a course. Looks easy - then you realize that your pockets are empty and you've been had by a master.
