Shoots in the 80s

The rating is for the course. T. Frey (Superintendent) and his staff keep the course in great shape depite the low budget he is given to work with. The place used to be immaculate as I worked on it for 12 years. The management team that owns the course "Fore Golf" has turned it into a poorly run product. They jam it full and don't give a rat's a$$ about the customers as long as they collect greens fees. It's a damn shame. It's not that hard to be hospitable and caring to the needs and wants of paying customers. I worked part time there in 2010 and they treat their employees even worse. IT'S NOT THAT DAMN DIFFICULT!!! The management needs to get a f-ing clue!!!

SLOW PLAY AND OVERBOOKED!!! IF YOU LIKE SNAIL''S-PACE GOLF, OVERBOOKING, AND AN UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF, THEN THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!! I booked a single tee time riding 18 via Golfnow.com on Fri., June 10, 2011. I play alot of golf and a lot as a single during the week thru Golfnow- never any problems. I know that as a single you are taking your chances, you might have to play through or be paired, etc.., no biggie. If it matters, I shoot 70''s-80''s. I get through 4 holes and beginning at the 5th, the tee boxes are stacked up with 4-somes 2 and three groups deep. The group ahead said that it's going to be a looong day. Tee times got off 20 to 30 minutes late (no rain or weather delay), and that there was no starter and they had seen no ranger. They suggested I drive up a few holes and then double back later. I drove to the 7th, stacked up, 8th, stacked up....all the way to the 15th with the same senario all the way. I stopped at some guys at the 15th and asked "what the...?"... Two said they used to be members when it was a private country club and now it is ran terribly and unprofessionally and this is now the norm rather than an anomaly. I went back to the clubhouse to ask for a refund and the 12 yr old general manager mockingly shrugged his shoulders and said "well, you are a single" AS IF IT IS SOMEHOW MY FAULT FOR SHOWING UP AS A SINGLE!". I said "so what?, you advertised the tee time and this pace would be unplayable under any circumstance, I'm on pace for over a 6 hour round.". So he grabs hs calculator AND PRO-RATES A RAIN CHECK FOR 14 HOLES GOOD FOR A MONTH WITH NO APPOLOGY OR ANYTHING. I said that I just drove 38 miles (I live on the east side od Cincinnati) and I doubt I'd get back within a month to even use it. he just matter-of-factly said "that's all I can do", and hands me the rain check as he's waiting to overbook more walk-ons waiting in line with no warning of slow play ahead. That's when I went off!! several of those waiting turned and walked out...at least that's a little satisfying. 38 miles at $4 a gallon for an overbooked course, an attitude, unprofessionalism, and a pro-rated rain-check for 14 holes. what a shame, because the 4 holes I did get to play were nice!

Shoot in the 70s

Played the course in an amateur tournament for the first time. Course seemed very gimmicky. For example, there were some of the biggest shelves and mounds on the greens that you will see in SW Ohio. Also a lot of false fronts and backs on the greens that if you don't know they are there you can easily get into trouble. Maintenance was about average. I noticed that they fail to use ground under repair markings for obvious places. I beliee it was the 7th hole where a perfect drive in the middle of the fairway ended up being a punishment. There was drainage installed recently and this caused my ball to sit in a depression. That along with the severe uphill lie it made for an impossible play. Other holes had similar problems with ruts in the rough just off the fairway on 2 and there were several strips of uncut rough on the back nine. I enjoyed the layout but the greens gave me headaches. If you have sidehill or downhill putts anywhere on the course, expect tons of break and good luck stopping the ball anywhere close on a downhiller. I had one putt that i literally tapped from 20 ft and ended up 10 feet past. This was after watching a playing partner almost go off the green from 5 feet behind me on the same line. I love a good challenge, but I'm afraid a lot of the challenges here can only be learned by experience.

Range was very nice, no targets however. Putting greens similar to the course had huge slopes. couldn't find a flat straight putt on either putting green to practice on.
