Actually, I think the folks on this site are a little too harsh. If they knew the background of this course, they might appreciate it more. It was a course that was built by PB Dye, Pete Dye's son, on a strict budget to replace the dump of a 9 hole course they used to have and called a "country club". This course is infinitely better than the old course. For the cost, it's hard to beat. $22 including cart? Where are you going to play a Dye course that cheaply?
Yes, I agree that they have changed his design a little, removing some of the waste bunkers and allowing grass to grow into them as rough. But it doesn't truly effect the design though it does the look. I have to admit it changed #2, #12 and #14 when they got rid of the waste areas. But this is a municipal course that has had some "political" troubles by the city. It was built to enhance standard of living in El Reno area. Can't help that most people there seem to have a small town, rural mentality. This could be a peach of a course and it comes close. Also, famous tornado that hit El Reno airport and destroyed terminal building there, also hurt this course. I think they have done a fine job maintaining it on the budget they have and with the limited play they get. Very undulating greens; great variety of holes from reacheable par 5's to blind shots to greens on some. Course is fairly wide open but it definitely has hazards in play.

Customer Service

Fairly plebian. They are short handed at clubhouse (yes, it's a mobile home building). Usually one person runs counter and snack bar. Golf carts are gas; electric would be quieter but there are some hills to climb around course, so perhaps they believed they would be better carts for area. Adequate practice facilities.

This is a poor man's Dye course. Some railroad ties used, but tend to be a little overgrown with grass. No big deep pot bunkers and they removed waste area bunkers. But greens are undulating; not simple flat surfaces.

Could there be anymore inmate labor around the golf course? I know it is cheap labor, but to walk into a mobile home clubhouse and see 8 inmates eating baloney sandwiches is quite disconcerting. Course is in about as good a shape as could be expected. Nothing spectacular. When first opened it had the best greens of anywhere in Oklahoma.

Customer Service

Not much, but what can you expect from something in El Reno.

Very challenging layout from the tips. The two most prevelant hazards are the rough and the wind. Not many trees and you can stay away from the water so the rough is all they really have. Wish they could teach golfers to repair ball marks. All the rain this year has made the course lush.

Customer Service

Friendly but limited. Pro shop is a mobile home/trailer.

Only the second time I have played this course. It has an interesting layout, but needs work.

Customer Service

Non-existent. Club house is a mobil home, and no one in the bar/grill to server food at 8:30 AM.

Course was really nice when it first opened. It is run down now, and needs a lot of work. They let a couple of sand bunkers turn to grass bunkers. The layout could be really great, but needs lot of work. Front nine plays through some hills and slight trees, with some water. The back nine is more of a links type layout. The wind always blows at least 15 mph and often blows 25 or more. Not a fun course to play but definately challenging.

Customer Service

is ok, not the best. clubhouse is a mobile home....

This is the worst course I've ever been to. There are NO trees along the fairways, there are weeds grown up all over the course, the bunkers are like cement, the ball cleaners make your ball look worse because of the brown water inside them, the golf carts are slow and barely make it up hills, the clubhouse is a mobile home, the water hazards smell like sewage, one of the bunkers on the 2nd hole is rediculously large, the greens are incredibly fast, although they do have some nice slopes in them, and the layout of the course sucks!

Customer Service

it was okay

Interesting layout. Blind tee shots on every hole. Greens have a tremendous amount of slope and undulations. Greens are in good shape and very big. The 7th hole is very interesting. Short hole with a large mound in front which prevents you from seeing the green from the tee box. Tee Boxes in great shape. Can be an extremely difficult if the wind is up.
