this course challenges you on every hole with tight tree-lined fairways, but not many OB areas (mostly lateral hazard). most greens are strategically guarded with bukers on more than one side, making it challenging to score regardless of pin placement. many holes have water in play as well, and some of the greens drop off sharply into the rough on one side or the other. the greens were in poor shape, but they recently overseeded. there was good beverage service, and the marshall came around often to keep an eye on the pace. very friendly staff!

Silverhorn is a solid, above average course. I'd never rank this course with the best in San Antonio, but I've never had a problem playing a round at Silverhorn. It's a good layout, pretty traditional with a good mix of hazards and choices for a challenging game of golf.

Only on rare occasions is the course in poor shape. It is built in a flood plain, so a major rain storm will mess it up pretty good. But the staff does a good job of keeping it in shape.

For the price, it's a good value. Again, I can think of 4-5 public courses in San Antonio I'd play before Silverhorn (Pecan Valley, La Cantera, La Cantera-Palmer Course, Hyatt Hill Country and The Quarry), but I would never tell someone not to play at Silverhorn if they had the chance.
