Shoots in the 80s

OMG, this was the most incredible once in a lifetime golf experience.
I have to admit that for the first couple of holes I was puzzled. The fairways seemed sparse, the greens wouldn't hold an iron.
Ah yes, a true links course!!

But then I began to use my caddie. Instead of asking her for an 8 iron for a 150 yard shot, we'd discuss first the distance to the flag, then the distance that I needed to hit the ball, so as to run the ball up onto the green. Example, on 18 I'm 135 out, and she says"hit a little 115 yard shot here, aim about 15 yard right if the flag, it'll run down to the pin."
Magic.

I learned about fescue fairways and greens. I learned about what bump and run really means. I learned about putting from 20 yards off the green. I learned why you needn't repair divots, because of the shallow root system and the way the grass will grow back in a couple of days (as per my caddie who plays here 80 times a year on a golf scholarship).
I learned about bunkers where there are no rakes, just mother nature, her wind, the sand and the sea.

Oh, and did I mention I learned about the ultimate experience in golf;playing with a good caddie who has local knowledge? Worth every penny of the $100 I paid her ($55 scheduled plus "appropriate gratuity")
Oh and did I mention the views? Spectacular seaside side tee boxes, hitting a knock down 5 iron 150 yards over sandy waste to a green similarly perched over a fifty foot drop down to a vast expanse of vacant beach. The occasional fog bank rolling over the course, so close that you could reach out and grab a wisp of ocean air.

It helped that I played well. Shot 83, including a 38 back nine. I'd say my caddie probably saved me at least 8 strokes, both by advice as to where and how far to hit shots, as well as reading the greens, seeing little breaks where I saw none.

Did I say once in a lifetime? How about I can't wait to go back.

Customer Service

Top notch. Pro shop staff truly welcoming. Nice new clubhouse, where my wife hung out while I played, and where they made her feel like they cared. And what else can I say about my caddie, who undoubtedly made the whole experience one to remember.
