Shoots in the 90s

Sunset Grove is basically a cow pasture with greens and tee boxes. Most of its 9 holes are fairly straight, with the exception of the two finishing holes - both with doglegs to the left. Water comes into play on only two holes.

Highlights: The 9th hole is over 400 yards with a severly sloping green, making it challenging even for low handicappers. Other than that, it's a very straightforward, easy course. (This can have its upside in the form of boosted golf egos.)

Lowlights: My main complaint, aside from being pretty dull, is the greens. Many are small and mounded, falling off on all sides. This can make for a VERY annoying round of golf. Another complaint is that the course's two part 3's are back to back, making an already uninteresting course layout that much more boring.

Recommendation: Give it a shot. Once. Don't expect anything exciting, but plan to score. It's a bit secluded, which can be a positive or negative depending on your perspective. I've never seen it crowded, and I've never had to call ahead for a tee time - so it's perfect on the spur of the moment.

Customer Service

I doubt there are more than 3 employees on the grounds at any one time, and that includes the pro shop, refreshment stand, and course managers. There are no marshals, but there seems to be no need. This appears to be a family operation, which I find appealing.

The nine hole layout and mounded greens remind me a bit of the now defunct Orenco Woods. Other than that, it's fairly "unique".

Sunset Grove is basically a cow pasture with greens and tee boxes. That doesn't necessarily mean it's not worth playing - just don't expect a lot of excitement. Most holes are fairly straight, only two of which have water in play.

Highlights: The 9th hole presents a challenging, sloped green. Being a longer par 4, it challenges even low handicappers. The remainder of the course allows for low scores and boosted golf egos.

Lowlights: It's a bit out in the middle of nowhere, but that more or less adds charm. Probably my biggest complaint is the greens, the majority of which are very small and atop mounds, essentially dropping off on all sides. I assume this is for drainage purposes, but it can make for a VERY annoying round of golf. Also, there are only 9 holes here.

Recommendation: Why not give it a shot? Once. It's certainly nothing special golf-wise, but like pizza, even the bad stuff is still Ok.

This seems to be a family operation. The place is rarely crowded, so there may be one or two people staffing the whole course - pro shop, refreshment stand, and course management all included. The course is unmarshalled, but there isn't much need for it anyway.
