Shoot in the 80s

Wide open front nine up, down and around the Summit Hills from which the course takes its name. The challenge on the front nine comes from playing uphill/downhill/side lies. What really distinguishes the course is its back nine, which winds through narrow forest and forces the player to either hit straight tee shots or fish a new ball out of the bag. The signature par 4 14th is a beautiful uphill tee shot (the green is reachable) carrying a miry bog, up a mound-studded fairway and onto a green bounded in the back by a stone wall. The top of the course provides a scenic view of the valley, and the thick forest makes for a great northeast Pennsylvanian autumn visual. One minus for the course--given the low price of admissions, there are a lot of hackers on the course. Play can be slow (although the course usually isn't particularly crowded), and the parallel fairways can be dangerous--I've been hit and close to hit several times while standing on the 9th tee box, which vulnerable to an errant tee shot from the par 3 8th. All in all, though, I'd strongly recommend the course--but bring extra balls!
