Shoots in the 80s

A group of about 20, including myself, had a golf outing at Carroll Valley and Moutainview recently. We played 36 holes both days (first 54 were fine but that last 18 we could barely swing our clubs!!.)

The fairways and greens were in good shape. The greens rolled very true. Rarely do you get a flat lie on any of the fairways which adds to the course difficulty. The tee boxes need some work done to them. Itwas difficult to find a flat area to hit from on many of the tees. By far my biggest gripe about the courses was the fact that they had the sprinklers on both days, all day. I completely understand they are concerned about their fairways getting burned out, but that is why many courses soak them in the mourning and again in the late evening. It was VERY frustrating to have to constantly have the maintanance workers standing in the middle of the fairway not even looking at you when you hit the ball. Many times I would have to wait for the sprinkler to pass my ball, run in, address my ball and hit it within 15-20 seconds or risk getting soaked. This was EVERY hole both days. I believe if you play an "elite" course you should not have to deal with this. This was the only negative I have but it is big one in my book.

Dinner and $1 drafts at the bar were nice.

Customer Service

Customer service was good overall. Again, I have one complaint. When I was checking in the girl asked me for a credit card. I told her I didn't own any. She asked for my bank card. I asked her if they were going to place a hold on it because if they were then I didn't want to use that card. She assured me they were placing a hold, they just needed the card in case I left and didn't pay. Well, I got home from our trip and sure enough I had a $253 hold placed on my card. I was not pleased but they did clear it up the next day when I called.

Our group of travelling seniors played here 7-24-07, for $33 with the Tee Time book, a pretty good deal for a course of this quality. Design is straightforward, with no sneaky surprises. Fairways are generally wide and friendly, greens are large and fairly flat. Water comes into play on about 7 holes, including four where the hazard is right in front of the green. Not a lot of bunkering on the course, but enough to keep one honest. Course is walkable for someone in reasonable shape; though there is some elevation change, it's not too daunting. Conditions today: Tee boxes - good; fairways - excellent, dspite the lack of recent rain; rough - thin and HARD (they do not water the rough, so the ball will run a mile): bunkers - good; greens - excellent, putted true, but not overly fast. Very much worth the trip. We highly recommend Carroll Valley. Check the website for specials.

Customer Service

Excellent everywhere; pro shop staff very welcoming and efficient, beverage cart driver made frequn rounds, and he snack bar folks were right at the top of their game. Also, a pitcher of Yuengling is only $4.00...we almost spent the night!!
