This course is short, poorly maintained and overpriced. The first hole is always backed up especially on the weekends and afternoons. Tee times are recommended, but not that they do a lot of good. I play here about once a year (solely due to its great location) and it just always seems that management doesn't care anything for improving this course's problems.

Customer Service

Clearly I annoyed these people by wanting to play at their golf course.

This was my "home course" for about two years, as I played there every week or two during the summer. At the time, it was a decent value if you were walking. Recently, the rates have gone up to mid-level quality, but the course hasn't been renovated to my knowledge. The first four holes are a joke. You can drive the green on #1 even if you're not a big hitter. I once birdied #2 with a 4, not knowing it was a birdie until I looked at the scorecard and saw it was a par 5. Number 3 is a gimmicky "Should I hit two 7 irons or drive a 260-yard lake" hole. Number 4 is the shortest par-3 of all time. The rest of the front side is better, although #8 is one of those annoying 90-degree turn holes. #5 is a high, hard, slice-hitting driver's dream par-5. I swear I feel like I've made half my lifetime birdies there. The backside is puzzling. Number 10 has a giant octopus tree dead in the middle of the fairway landing area. The rest is pretty good. Back side is definitely better than the front, although not as much adventure.

Dead Horse is definatly not the best course in Knoxville, however for the money its not bad. If you decide to venture out to this course the day after it rains there is a good chance you will lose a shoe in the slush. When the course is dry it is an above average course. If you have the chance, go try Three Ridges. It is by far the best public course I have ever played.

Customer Service

I have never had any problem with the people that work there. They have always been helpful and friendly with me.

This course is crap! I have placed it on my never to play again list, even though my grandfather helped build the course.

Customer Service

The rudest people I have ever met.

Front nine layout is nice. The back nine seemed to be an afterthought. Small greens. Condition varies GREATLY everytime I'm there. They've put a lot of money into it recently. The people in the proshop are consistently rude. For $30.00 I'm usually disappointed. I only play there when someone else pays or I find a coupon.

Customer Service

One or two nice people - plenty of golf snobs for an average course.

DHL is OK at best. I played there in Oct 2002, in the rain, and was not very impressed. Need to work on the greens. Has alot of potential.

I have played just about every course in Knoxville, TN and Dead Horse Lake ranks #1 in my book for affordability and quality. Yes, there are nicer golf courses in Knoxville, but they are all way too exspensive. For what DHL charges I feel their conditions are very good. I have seen other reviews that may diagree with me, but they are comparing it to the conditions of $75 and up courses. From what I understand DHL has been around for over 30 years, so apparently they are doing something right.

Course is on the upswing!! Played it in Aug and then in Oct. They are definitely making improvements. Only a few greens need work and they were working on them when I was there. Otherwise good solid conditions.

Course need to be maintained. Layout not bad but bad greens keeping makes course not enjoyable. I suggest going to the city course, much better value or drive a little for better quality course.

Having played golf at all the golf courses in the Knoxville area, Dead Horse Lake Golf Course ranks as the absolute WORST course I've ever played. The layout is half-way decent, but the quality of the course is terrible. Clover covers every fairway, goose feces surrounds every green and craters dug with toes of putters blocks one's line to the hole!!! The rough is non-existent; all it is is hard dirt, and there are no facilities on the course.
