Shoots in the 80s

Highland Lakes just re-opened and is a really good course to test any golfer. Several holes are blind shots and with the Hill Country slope, some narrow fairways, lots of trees, water, and sand, it makes for a fun round. Playing with a local is a big bonus -like having a caddy. Greens are in excellent shape and no 2 holes are the same-like on some flat courses. Couple of long par 3's too. Not a long course but off target shots can find trouble. About a 45 min drive out to Lago Vista but well worth it. One of my favorites to play in Austin area.

Customer Service

Very friendly staff.....no clubhouse yet-pro shop is the snack bar as they just re-opened after a few years. Discounts on-line will save you $$ if plan ahead to go out to play.

Highlands was closed due to bankruptcy for almost a year before it was acquired by the city of Lago Vista. It was reopened on August 1, 2010. The course is in great shape and the greens are coming in nicely. I would speculate that by this week (Sept 14, 2010) they will be in excellent condition. A much tougher 18 holes than the Lago course but the views and challenges are worth it. Think a narrow links style track with extreme elevation changes and some very challenging decisions on course management. Excellent way to spend some time.

Customer Service

Good. The main clubhouse was not acquired and is closed. The staff use a small area as a pro shop and they do a great job of taking care of you.

I really enjoyed playing Highland Lakes. Being from Houston (Flatlander) the sloping terrain was alot of fun. Scenery was great. Several good views of Lake Travis and there was deer every where. Fairways where in great shape. Greens where in good shape but had just been sanded for the summer so putting was a big challenge! Tee boxes where level and not dried out.

The staff was courteous and the golf carts where gas driven and in good shape.

In summary, I recommend this course as a fun and entertaining place to play.
