Par 3's and 4's; realtively fast bent grass greens; generally good maintenance and conditioning.

Bunker sand is inconsistent even from one side of the greens to the other, much less from hole-to-hole. The par 5's could be tougher but, on the other hand, they do provide an occasional and needed "breather".

There are two courses at Stonebridge, the "Ranch", an Arthur Hills design, and "The Country Club", a Pete Dye design. Both are 'private' courses. I am reviewing the Dye course from the "blue tees", about 6800 yds+ (the course plays about 7200 yds from the "blacks") Typical to Pete Dye designs, one hits at an angle to almost all the par 4's whereby good course knowledge and awareness of your game (carry off the tee) help immensely. Taking the right angle off the tee can reduce the yardages significantly on the par 4's. There is a lot of water (which comes into play prominently on 7 holes and another 3 have creeks that shouldn't come into play) and plenty of Dye's signature railroad ties. The par 3's (two on each side) are probably the best "set" of par 3's I've ever played on a single course (the 12th is the signature hole). The lengths from the blues are 190, 161, 193 and 195 but play at differing directions relative to the wind. On three of them water comes into play big time. The eighth, at only 161yds from the blue tees, used to intimidate me when I played there infrequently as a guest; now that I am a member and play the course all the time, it scares the heck out of me! Nine and eighteen wrap around the same lake; nine is a slight dogleg right while eighteen is a slight dogleg left. You need all of your game to play this course succesfully, especially when the wind is up (which is most of the time). You'll find yourself hitting a lot on long irons and fairway woods into par fours if you aren't very long off the tee. The par fives, by comparison, are easy!
