Shoot in the 100s

Designed by Rees Jones (son of Trent Jones), the Houstonian is one of the most beautiful and difficult private courses in the Southwest USA. Although the course is limited to 18 holes (Built mid-1999; Rated 71.0/Slope 122 blues), an expansion is planned in the near future, I understand.

The course's main feature is water. Half of the holes are bordered by water features. Bring extra balls as you will likely loose some since many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water; your pitches and chips had better be on the mark. Of particular note is hole 16 featuring an intimating peninsula shot and hole 17 featuring an across the water par 3; the elevated green on 17 is surrounded by bunkers and water.

The greens are very challenging, fast and hard to read.

This part of Southwest Texas is surrounded by environmentally sensitive wetlands and the course has three holes bordering those areas. Incredible birds and turtles can be seen throughout the course.

The greens, grounds, fairways and facilities are emmaculate. Incredible service is a hallmark at this course. First class, five star.

The fees are high by Houston standards - even for members ($115 weekends including cart; $95 weekdays; $77 twighlight). You can play as a member, guest of a member or Houstonian Hotel/Spa guest.
