Shoots in the 100s

This is a very compact course often called the hard hat course by the locals. There's not a lot of room between the fairways on the front nine and if you hit about a buck seventy five off the tee on the second hole and tend to fade the ball to the right, make sure the first hole green is clear as it is not uncommon to have a ball land there.

Overall it's a fun course to play and on a scale of ten I give it a six. They do what they can to keep it in shape but hey, it's a muni. Just play and have fun. You'll love it if you don't have alot of spare golf balls in your bag, it's tough to loose one.

Customer Service

The starters are friendly guys but the pro shop, forget it. They just give you the pain in the rear look and take your dough. Have a nice day.

Brack as the locals call it is one of several Muni's in San Antonio. Brack is a decent course and not totally dissapointing unless your really good or want all the sundries. It is highly congested and because its a muni it attracts duffers like myself. One thing about Brack is that its hard to tell what your going to get when you play there. Greens and fairways are sometimes good and others horrible. Sometimes there seems to be lots of garbage on the course. The layout on it is ok with many open fairways. Of the Muni's in San Antonio this one is not one of the better ones but if your looking to get some Golfing in this isnt to bad. If your looking for scenery and etiquette look elsewhere.

Customer Service

Sort of like herding the masses so not real friendly but not rude.

Brackenridge Golf Course is the oldest public golf course in the State of texas. The land was privately owned by Col. Brackenridge in the late 1800's and was used primarily for hunting. The course was designed in the early 1900s by A.W. Tilinghast, a premiere designer from the East.
He was known for being pompous and nagged the jail labor who built the course. He would die penniless as the Depression put a serious dent in the amount of work that was available to golf course designers during the time.

Ben Hogan played his first professional (Texas Open) tournament here in 1930 at the age of 17. He shot 76, withdrew, went back to the Dallas area and worked as a card dealer until his game improved. He would eventually win the Texas Open serveral years later.

Brackenridge has been altered since the early days; particularly the back nine. However, you can sense some things here, historically, that you will not find on very many courses. The oak, pecan and other trees on the course are mature. The bermuda fairways have been walked by the likes of Walter Hagen , Gene Sarazen and Byron Nelson.
The greens are generally slow, so putts can be driven to the back of the cup without risking a dramatic roll away should a golfer miss.
Few greens are elevated so a bump and run approach is certainly feasible. However, if there is water on the course, from recent rain, a high targeted approach is
probably more reasonable since the greens are not too hard.

The maintenance crew does a good job of nurturing the course. Optimal conditions are April through May, as the harsh Texas sun dries out the greens and fairways throughout the Summer.

Great value for the money. Slow play is common so get an early tee time if you are concerned about pace.

Customer Service

These guys are golf bums, they don't care too much about customer service, but they get the job done.
The grill is good.
