I played this course in October 2006 on a weekend get-a-way trip to San Antonio. I found this to be a very nice, upscale golf course. I would definately recomend this course to any San Antonio visitor. I had coupons from GolfQ to help defray the green fee expense.

layout, difficulty, green conditions at times

Hyatt Hill Country offers a spectacular resort with one of the best "lazy river" style pools and superb facilities in Texas but the course is decent at best. For the money, the layout is uninspiring and easy to score on. If you are content on playing at a course in San Antonio, my recommendations would be elsewhere (potentially La Cantera Resort/Palmer courses or Pecan.

This is a spectacular layout that is very well maintained. Played it a couple weeks ago, and the fairways were lush and the greens were smooth and relatively fast. In my opinion, the layout is very similar to the old Fazio course at Barton Creek, or at least it feels the same (i.e. same kind of shot selection, etc.).

The course is pricey at the regular rates, but if you can get a couple days worth of the San Antonio paper, they frequently have very good coupons in the sports section.
