LaCantera is indeed very beautiful and I loved the lay out. That's the good news. The bad news is that you better cross out 6 hours to play 18 holes here. I mentioned it to the Marshall on both occasions we crossed paths and he said something absurd about how "Well, it's hard to ask someone to hurry when they're paying $100 bucks." What? First off, I wish it was only $100 and second it doesn't matter what you play. The staff here almost seem like they don't have a clue about Golf.

I don't mind dropping a $100 on a great golf experience, but even though the course itself was worth it, everything else was not. Hopefully things have improved here, but I won't be going back.

really surprised that this course is still in buisiness. played there about 3 years ago and it was the longest round (incomplete round, had to give it up on 13) that i've ever played in my life. 5.5 hrs to this point, no water, no marshall. playing was well over $100 and probably the worst investment in golf ever!

Customer Service

the manager didn't have a clue as to what was going on. didn't know what to say and didn't offer rain check, money back, or even an apoligy.

This is my all-time favorite golf course. I love everything about it: the unique individual holes, the excellent course conditions, the scenery, the ability to score well, and the overall resort. It's pretty expensive, but it's worth every penny. Anyone looking for a great experience, both on and off the course, should stay at LaCantera.

La Cantera in the Texas Hill Country in San Antonio in my opinion is one of the best courses in Texas and the U.S. With several elevated tee shots, La Cantera serves up some very picturesque golf holes. My favorite is a short par 4 on the front known as the Rattler (named after the rattler roller coaster at Fiesta Texas that is next to this hole) Your tee box is on a cliff at least 100 ft above the fairway. And this is just one of several breathtaking holes. It's easy to see why the PGA tour stops here in the fall. With the new Westin hotel on site this makes for a wonderful golfing destination.

After reading the other two reviews I feel as though maybe I was playing a different course. After paying $140.00 per person to play a course, I certainly would expect to at least be provided with water and ice on the carts... we weren''t. Water at the snack shacks was $3.25 per bottle and the drink cart did not show up until the 16th hole. The staff was surly and not helpful. . .but enough about them. We played the course at the end of July and it was in terribl shape. The fairways were dry and burned and the tee boxes were soggy and smelled stagnant. I do agree that there are some beautiful elevated tee shots and the potential for spectacular views; however, my purpose for playing golf is to be able to visit beautiful places in a lovely serene surrounding. The hole that they built next to the rattler rollercoaster loses on both counts. Not just that hole but the one before and several after echo with the screams of the riders and the thundering noise of the rollercoaster. When we finally gave it up at the 16th hole, having already invested 4++ hours due to the fact that the groups in front of us were playing so slow, I asked to speak with the general manager. He was not available and I was able to share my disappointments with the junior manager. He listened quitely and had no response. After returning home I was able to send an email to the manager explaining that I thought it a terrible shame that the beautiful setting for the course was being sabotaged by the condition of the course and the staff. I received an email in return saying that they wanted to talk to me and were very concerned about the bad experience we had. We exchanged a couple of emails, he promised to call me and I have not heard from them yet. I was delighted to find this website when researching courses to play in Maryland. What a great concept and way to let everyone share their experiences. I have played some really superior golf courses from Carmel California, to Cabo San Lucas to Beaver Creek Colorado to Owings Mills Maryland. I don''t mind paying as long as I feel that I receive value for my money. AT Las Canteras, I did not receive value.
