Shoots in the 80s

Uvalde Memorial GC includes two distinct nines. There is the original, traditional style old nine, and a new links style nine. The old nine has mostly tree-lined fairways and small, crowned greens. The new nine is more wide open, with slightly larger, more undulating greens, with many more bunkers guarding them.

Conditions and maintenance as of 5/09 are not very good. Miss the fairway on the new nine, and you are hitting from hard pan. Fairways on the new nine contain a lot of crab grass as well. Each nine has one green that has a large amount of bare dirt where the bermuda grass used to be. The other greens are fairly decent though. The old nine in overall much better shape.

The course is short from the tips at just 6238 yards, but there are some very testy holes to keep better golfers interested. Overall, this course is not a bad small town muni, but it could definitely stand some improvement.

Customer Service

There is no snack bar, although the clubhouse is nice and snacks and drinks are available. The pro shop is also okay and the staff is friendly. Ice chests are available with free ice. Ball washers are poorly maintained, with old stinky water, if any at all. Golf carts have ball washers on them, but they could be better maintained as well.
