Shay Grange is a very well kept 9 hole course and for a 9 hole course can be quite challenging with water coming into play on holes 1, 4, 7 and 9. With its driving range, pro shop and cafe this must be one of the best 9 hole courses i've ever played on.

Shoots in the 80s

This is the course I grew up on- it is laid out on a large, open expanse of bottomland at the confluence of the Waits and Connecticut Rivers. It's nine holes proceed clockwise around the field, with #7 & #8 filling the center. As you can imagine, a hook is very quickly unlearned, but unfortunately, a fade is ingrained just as quickly. There is very little touble here, and it is a very short course, but it defends par very well. With rounded Donald-Ross-type (Say TINY) greens, and some excellent visual deceptions, par is a good score on ANY hole. #6 is a blind shot to a green sloping away, and while #8 has a recently installed water hazard waiting to collect that power fade, their are no traps on the green, and it is still a tough hole. There are very peculiar wind patterns, due to the town's business district looming on the bank over the course, and #9 can require anything from a 9-iron to an easy 4. The greens are left shaggy to withstand a lot of foot traffic, so bring that big stick with you. You will find that the invitation to jump at the ball on the 8th tee will prove irresistable. A real fun place to play (If you're not left
