I played this course on 5/16 in the mid-afternoon before my flight to LA from Dulles at 9 p.m.

For a resort course, it provides some of the usual things that you would expect, however, I was disappointed by some of the service aspects that they lacked. The course was a Tale of Two Courses as the front nine had good features that slowly allowed you to get motivated to play your best game of golf. Most of those holes were quite generous and forgiving without much harshness.

The second nine was a treacherous test of golf ability with narrow and mounding fairways, deep pocketed bunkers, and some blind shots that would require any middle handicapper to superhuman feats. In most cases, when a course deals you a difficult hand, you can always fall back to course management. Unfortunately, it was not even an option in this case.

A notation on the condition of the course: The course was extremely brown and dry for a resort course charging good money to play. There was a State Farm Insurance outing the next day as I think they were conferencing at the hotel and I know if I had been playing in it, I would have been severely disappointed with the condition of the course.

Customer Service

I arrived around 3 p.m. as a single and was sent out by myself. I played the first eight holes by myself before I caught up with a twosome that was slowed down by the other groups on the course. During the first part of my round, I still saw that the starter sent out 2 other singles by themselves. I wished I could have been paired up initially as I didn't know the course, but the starter didn't seem to care.

Driving range with unlimited balls were a plus. No yardage book for free was a negative. Pro shop says they close at 7 p.m. because they don't get much business afterward. That made me almost upset enough not to give them my business beforehand. I generally like to buy logo balls and such after the round.

Very nice course. Interesting grass in fairways, beautiful greens and tee boxes.

Excellent amenities including pro shop, and food/bars.

service cart drives around while you play for on the course snacks and drinks.

Very scenic and quiet - often see deer and other wildlife.

pro shop is packed, free range balls with your round, good food and drink in the resort, other resort things like massages, pool, etc.

This is a RTJ jr. layout in a very nice conference facility. It is a beautiful setting in some areas, but others are too close to the hotel or the roads. It is somewhat challenging, but not overly difficult. Some of the holes are spectacular, but they make the others jealous. It has very rare zoysia fairways and greens that make the ball sit up real nice, but the greens I believe are zoysia as well and they were a bit bumpy when I played. The problem with zoysia in this area is that it is dormant for most of the year. It's best played in June-September. It's not cheap. It would make a very nice golf/spa weekend with the wife.
