The Royal Virginian has been renovated in 2011 and is now in great shape. This course is surrounded by hard woods and some nice water. Very peaceful place to play golf. I would highly recommend it!

Customer Service

Customer service is great as well.

Shoots in the 70s

Royal Virginia Golf Club in Hadensville, Va. Played in April. Course design by Algie Pulley. Course condition was fair to below average, with no real difference between rough and fairway. Greens were fast and hard and had recently been aeroated. First experience at this golf course. Great design. Very long and narrow. Potential to be a top level course in state. Not played alot because of location.

Customer Service

Staff was cordial and helpful

Overall course is 3 star but easily could be 4 to 5 star depending on level of care by course management.

Shoots in the 80s

Used to be a nice course...long and challenging...played on a sunday morning for 35 including hot dogs, chips and a coke...paid too much believe it or not...they have let the place go to the birds...one of the best layouts in central va, but in awful condition...the greens were pocked, bare in spots and looked to have not been rolled in weeks...fairways were thin and teeboxes hairy...just a shame to let a course with such potential wilt.

Customer Service

very nice folks...not enough service to the course

Shoot in the 70s

This course is just plain tough. Nothing fancy -- no tricked-up holes, frivolous mounding or blind hazards. What you see is what you get. And what you get is often more than you bargained for.

This course has hosted the VSGA state open (2000 & 2001) and met rave reviews from participants.

New routing starts you off with a relatively benign par 5 only to subject you to a nice, little 460+ par 4 second.

One stand-out hole is #5 -- a beautiful par 4 that requires a long, straight drive down a tree-lined fairway and a precise downhill approach. Another great hole is #18 -- a big, bad par 4 that should settle a lot of bets -- they had to remove some trees on the corner of the dogleg just to make it more playable.

Conditioning is sometimes spotty. Recent and frequent ownership changes probably have something to do with that -- focus seems to be on housing development, rather than the course itself.

Midway between Richmond and Charlottesville, this course is worth the 30 minute drive.

Customer Service

everyone's super friendly. nice country folk -- no airs or pretensions, they are really happy to see you.

recently turned an old farmhouse on property into clubhouse -- not too plush, but pretty unique.
