I have played this course about ten times. This year the PGA bailed out of thier lease and the course was taken back by the city. It has now been leased by the group that owns Heron Ridge GC.I played 1 month ago and was vey disappointed with the conditions. No sand in the traps and greens very spotty. I definitely saw the effects of lack of maintainence from the changeover of management. The course is very long(7300 from the tips) and you should look at the card before deciding what tees to play. There is nothing memorable about this course. No signature holes just a long ass flat course with massive waste bunkers. Rumor has it that Reese Jones may ?? try to fix the Curtis Strange layout. There are definitely better course to play in the area like West Neck, Redwing, Nansemond River, or Bide a Wee.

Customer Service

Great course but a shame that they arn't fair to to locals that pay all the taxes. Have nothing against the milatary getting a discount but feel that at least the local seniors should get an equal deal if not a little better. Maybe when the city takes it over the locals will have the opportunity to play there.

this is a tough course but i don't know if i really get the big deal. i'd rather play nansemond river, river front or kiln creek. especially considering cost of rounds in season.

If you want to play a top notch, upscale course and not pay upscale prices this is your course. The course will provide all the challenges you can handle and then some, especially when the wind kicks up in the afternoon hours. It tends to have every hazard from massive waste bunkers not normally a feature found on mid-atlantic courses to water hazards of all shapes and sizes. I would not recommend this course to beginning golfers as they may become frustrated with the difficulty and length of most holes.

Customer Service

This is probably the finest golf course have ever played on. The course is kept in great shape and I have yet to play the course when it wasn't in the best condition possible. If you come play this course, you really fell like you are a guest of honor. I have heard some complaints about the price, but I believe it is well worth it if you are looking for a great round of golf.

Course is fairly new, so improvements are continually being made to improve entire course conditions. Several holes, which originally had some drainage and green problems have been reworked. Overall, the course has by far the finest conditions in the area, when you encompass all aspects of maintaining a golf course. The course has 5 sets of tee boxes. Unless you are a 10 handicap or better, stay away from the gold (6,974 yds) or black (7,432 yds)tees. Why spend the money spend on greens fees, only to get beat up from the longer tees? There are two sets of "men's" tees, white and blue. The majority of golfers should play from the white tees, but most choose the blue and can't break 90. With the abundance of "waste" areas, water and bunkers, the white tees will provide enough of a challenge for most golfers. The price is not correct in the description section. Instead of $100 - 200, it should say $75 - 105. The course offers discounts up to 30% off for "associate" members, and to become an associate member costs less than $200 currently. Good par 3's, all 4 with water in play.

Customer Service

Excellent service. Course sometimes gets complaints about the price, but when you take into consideration everything they offer - locker room amenities, great grille, superb course and practice facilities, it's really a decent value.

Shoot in the 90s

Being a Virginia Beach resident, I had to try out this course - luckily, it's been other people's treat the couple times I've gotten to play. I haven't played any other TPC courses, so I can't say how it matches up with those, but the one here in VB is well constructed and is wonderful to look at. I feel like it's very "hilly", and from what I understand they constructed the course out of the natural hills that were there. The bunkers were very hard to get out of, and there's lots of them (waste bunker 220+ yds up the right on the 1st hole :). Overall, I feel it's one of those, "you have to play it at least once" to just play it. The $ is a little high up there, and probably why I haven't been back as often. Also, it's a new addition to the BUY.COM tour.
