Don't waste your money or time on this poorly maintained course. They should convert it to a 9-holer and focus their efforts. Shameful, as it could be a great place.

Most people who review Waynes feel the need to blast it. I live close to is and you have to understand what the course is for. You go there to have fun and goof of with friends. It is pretty much always wet and the course is a little hilly but it is always fun.

The people in the shop are nice.

Oh Wayne.. The memories. A local target of golf shop lambasting; Wayne is a course where memories are created. Love'em or hate'm. All counts of the course mentioned previously are true. It's soggy, short, and modestly maintained, BUT is is FUN! Leave your BigBertha sized ego at home and enjoy a hacker-safe day on a course that will put you into position to make shots you've never swung at before.

I have had dry days at Wayne, and I have gone home covered in guck, but I've always had fun. Wayne embodies the Bothell/Kenmore community and its a great day for the open minded.

The first hole-by-hole guide on how to play the best course west of Augusta National! 1 - Keep the tee shot left. 2 - This par 5 will reward a hook to the left. Playing from the first fairway is the shortest route to the green. Going left, big hitters can hit the green with a driver and a mid iron. 3 - The par 3 is right on the slough. Aim right, for there is almost no room behind the green to the left. 4 - The first scoring hole for all levels of golfers. Keep it straight and any decent drive will leave a chip to the green for the beginning of a birdie binge. 5 - Hardest hole on course. There''s plenty of room to the right if you''re a slicer, so give it all you''ve got. Your target is a plateau halfway up the hill about 200 yards from the teebox. If you can place your tee shot there you''re a PW from birdage; just aim at the trees in front of you (but make sure you can get over the trees). Any other tee-shot and par will become a chore. 6. Hit a fade around the trees. If you go left you''ll go down a steep hill. Another scoring hole. 7 - Ho hum. A short iron at a decent sized green. Even if you miss the green it''s an easy par. 8 - Stay right. The slough is to the left and there''s a GIANT tree in the middle of the fairway. If you slice it here, no worries since you''ll probably get a favorable roll towards the green. The green is two-tiered and slick. A par on this hole is something to be proud of. 9 - A long par-three. A 5W gets the job done. A long iron or a 3W may just skid off the green. 10 - Scoring hole. Drive the green and take your eagle/birdie. 11 - See hole 3. 12 - A par 4 like you''ve never seen before. Hit an 8I to just short of the ditch, then it''s a SW to a dinky green. If you want to score big, choke up on a 6-iron, open the clubface, and plop one right on the green from the teebox. You''d better have nerves of steel, though. 13-15 - You''ve entered Billygoat Corner, a stretch of par 3''s on the side of a hill. A place to score big if you can play your medium irons well. 16 - Straight forward par 4. Drive the green and score. 17 - The Wayne''s signature hole. Use your driver only if you can draw/hook it. Another good idea is a 5W over the trees. Otherwise, hit a 6I to the ditch and another 6 to the green. This is where the wheels normally fall off for me. 18 - Pitch and putt golf. Weak fin

Most reviews of the Wayne slam it, and I can't see why. I look at the dates of some reviews, and sure the Wayne can be a little shabby come winter. It's basically in the floodplain for the Sammamish, and you know how wet the Northwest can be.

I recommend that those who think the Wayne is some bargain basement course head out there from June through August. It's a bargain, and you won't find the crowds from Jackson/West Seattle nor the @$$holes from Willows Run/Newcastle.

The designer had to cram in eighteen holes, and he made the best out of it. Sure there's an abundance of par threes, not to mention the world's shortest par four, but none are gimmes. The greens are on the side of the hill, Mr. Fender? Maybe someone will design a course where you just putt it into a funnel which leads directly to the hole. Will that make it easier for you? I'll look for you later at BumperBowling.com.

I must say a lot of what Nick is saying is correct, but he is definitely exaggerating. It is a very playable course with a unique layout.

Layout: The front and back nine are very different. The front nine is normal and fun to play, with a par 5 and two par 3's. The front is played up onto a hill which does create funny lies, a challenge to any golfer. A great hole is the 7th, a 145 yard par 3 that features a 70 foot vertical drop the the green. The back nine, however, is not on the same page. Actually, it's a whole different story. It is EXTREMELY short, with the longest hole being a mere 307 yards. Wayne's has the distinction of being home to the shortest par "4" in WA state, at only 172 yards. The Lake Washington-Sammamish slough winds through the course, and comes into play on many holes. The presence of the slough can created headache for the unexperienced hacker.

Maintenence/Condition: Um, where is the maintenence supervisor? Is there a maintenence supervisor? Oh, he's on vacation? Yeah that's what I thought. Although there is really nothing you can do about the unending flocks of Canadian geese that roam the course (except use them as aiming targets for your drives) their excrement fills most every fairway and is an integral part of the challenge of this course. Watch your step! (This brings a new meaning to the term "lift and clean") The grass on the course mostly a mix of fairway and rough, it is difficult to determine the difference between them. I must admit this course has TERRIBLE drainage, and if you're not careful you might walk yourself right into a muddy situation. I was playing the aforementioned 7th hole one time after a traditional northwest rainstorm. While trying to get down the very steep embankment to the green, I had to use my 7-iron as an anchor to keep me from falling. Low and behold, I did fall on the slippery filth, and had to play the rest of the round with tainted slacks. There were puddles 8 inches deep of pure thick mud. Bottom line? Don't play this course if it has been raining. You will regret it.

Tees and Greens: Yes, the tees are mats (there are some optional grass tees on some holes, though!). Does that mean you have to hit off the mats? NO! Just find a patch of green stuff by the mat, and hit from there. Not a problem. The greens are quite choppy and unrealistic, but it depends on the drainage. If the greens are wet, it might as well be pouring down rain outside, even if it is a sunny day. Goose droppings on the greens to create very interesting putting situations, although you have to be lucky to have one in your line.

The putting green is small and not very good. Never tried the restaurant.

My mother always said, "If you can't say something nice..."

Well, sorry Mom, but here's the scoop on Wayne Public Golf Course...

This is just about as low on the golf totem pole as you can go. Just about everything about this place is the ripe for criticism. First, there are the tee mats on every hole. Then the fairways that make you wonder if the mower has been broken down for a few weeks. Then the greens... slow, chewed up, bumpy... just generally not nice.

The course is about 4,000 yards "long" with a par of 65. But it plays a lot shorter than that (if you can believe that) unless it's wet (which it usually is) when every shot you hit will plug six inches deep. Not only does this course not drain well, it actually IS the drain for most of two counties. I think the "layout" is some kind of joke. It's hard to even describe. Several of the par "four" holes are driveable with a three wood or even a long iron. Somewhere somebody is laughing about the fact that people try to play golf on the goofy sidehill holes. And be sure to wear a helmet on the flat holes because stray shots from adjacent holes are many!

I have to confess that I have only played Wayne twice, both times under duress. But, really, once was plenty.
