Beautifully green year round, nice fluid layout, plenty of trouble but not enough to make the round a nail biter.

Can get very soggy, not the courses fault, it is Washington. I was once chased by a large goose there, thought I as a goner.

If you''''re military or have a friend that is, I recommend you visit Whispering Furs. It''''s a great course for all levels of play. Of course the trees are the major difficulty factor on the course, but the fairways tend to be plenty wide. Since the course is not overly long a 3 wood or long iron off the tee should lead to plenty of scoring opportunities. The greens lean toward the soft side due to the year round rain that Washington is known for. There are several great holes on this course, including #5, a 160yd par 3 over a picturesque pond. There are a few classic risk / reward holes that will tempt you and #14 is reachable with a good poke. They built a very nice clubhouse a couple years ago and the staff is very friendly. A nice driving range and large practice putting green should get you warmed up nicely.

I've played on the courses in the area and I play @ McChord more than the rest becuase of the service and the condition of the course. It is well maintained year round. The greens tend to be on the soft and slow on overcast and fast and true on sunny days. Tee boxes can be placed in some difficult spots at times. Play it on an invite or with a military friend as it is not open to the general public as Ft. Lewis is. The prices are reasonable anf=d the people are great!!!
