Shoots in the 90s

West Seattle takes great pride in that it is a Chandler Egan designed course and one of the older courses in the Seattle area. There are some interesting holes, a number of forced carries and great views of downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay from the back nine and Mt Rainier from the front nine. Do not recommend playing this course on the weekend. It gets a lot of play and they send out tee times every 7 minutes (or less). They just put way to many players out on the course. No starter - so I was hitting my seond shot on the opening par 5, and in comes a tee shot from the group on the tee box. Hello - I'm standing right here. Weekend rounds unless you are early early morning are 5 hours. There are a couple par 3's (#3 and #13) that are always backed up as they are over ravines. The course really needs to implement a mark and hit-up process on these two holes. The evil twin holes (#14 and #16) don't be short or long - middle of the green is the only good play. The ending 5 holes are up, down, up, down, up. Greens are generally true and in good shape. Our greens fees included cart, hotdog and drink.

Customer Service

Played with 2 friends and our 3 husbands - two threesomes. The course sent out an older man to play with us gals and according to our husbands said "I'm not playing with a bunch of women, stormed back into the clubhouse" - where the clubhouse reassigned him to play with our husbands and sent a nice college kid to play with us. I'm a 17 handicap - so don't consider myself a slouch and I saw this guy - he wasn't joining the Champions Tour anytime soon. We didn't know all this happened until after the round. But when you think about it - how is this any different then if the guy had refused to play with three black men. Shouldn't the course simply have said "Sir, if you don't want to play with the foresome we have assigned you to, perhaps you should play at a different course today." Played West Seattle this weekend and was expecting a 5 hour round. They got us out 20 minutes late. They let a fivesome out two groups in front of us - and as we were standing on the 17th tee the 18 green and fairway were wide open while this fivesome was walking to the tee box. The marshall split them up on #7, but they were together teeing off on #12. Didn't see a marshall on the back nine.

I loved the course. It was very fun and the holes were pretty interesting. There was a stretch of par 4's at the end but it was not very noticeable. I will definatly play there again.

Customer Service

I completely disagree, WSMGC is a really great course, with a convinient location. It's simply a well maintained and thought out course.

Very wet course and slow play is a problem on the weekends. Nice views of downtown. Holes 1-13 are pretty good, but after that are fair at best. Not really worth the $30 rate compared to other courses in the area.

You're better off going to W. Seattle for nine only. The back nine is uphill, back-and-forth golf. It's well maintained, though, with nice views of Mt. Rainier and downtown.

The pro shop is the best one at any golf course in the region. The bar serves liquor as well as beer.

The course has really improved in the past few years as new tee boxes have been built. Course condition is generally pretty good except in the winter and after a long rainy spell it can get mucky in spots. The front nine is pretty challenging with 3 par 5's, a couple decent par 4's, and OB on 3 holes. The back side is easier but the greens on some of the holes are pretty tricky, especially when they are cut short on a dry day. On # 16 stay below the hole or face the possiblity of putting off the green. My favorite of the 3 city owned courses.

Greens, fairways and tees are all in great shape. Play can be slow. The back nine is somewhat boring as the holes, mostly par fours, look mostly the same, particualrly from the 13th hole to the end. The course is fairly wide open; there are only a few holes to lose balls on. The twelfth hole is the best not only for its view of downtown Seattle, but also for the long carry through a patch of woods and its hilly terrain. This is the course closest to me, yet I don't paly it as much as the other munis in the area.
